"OUTRAGE"
« on: May 07, 2009, 11:04:48 am »
The gay blogs have been all abuzz about a new documentary making the rounds at film festivals.  It's called "Outrage", and I've been hearing amazing things about it.

The Washington Post just came out with an article about it:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/05/05/AR2009050503851.html

This should be fun (once it has a theatrical release)!

Watch the trailer here:

Looks great. It's about time too. I wonder exactly how big this cesspool actually is ? If all these self hating hypocrites were closeted gays, it freaks me to imagine if the Westboro Phelps ( Pastor Fred Phelps and his daughter, Shirley Phelps-Roper) were closeted gays too with their illogical life and death focus on homosexuality 24/7. Yikes, very disturbing visual. :o :D

Hitler probably was.  ::) Just proves the point in Outrage. Those who persecute gays the hardest are the ones with the biggest secrets. >:(

Update -- that LA Times just wrote about it, and names the names...

http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/la-et-cause8-2009may08,0,6665296.story

"Among those named in "Outrage" are veteran California Rep. David Dreier,
Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, former Republican National Committee Chairman Ken
Mehlman, ex-Louisiana Congressman Jim McCrery, former New York City Mayor Ed
Koch and ex-Idaho Sen. Larry Craig, whose notorious 2007 arrest on suspicion of
lewd conduct in a Minneapolis airport men's room effectively ended his
political career."

I am so confused. Here it is 2009 and we are still dealing with these types of things. It is just so hard to fathom this type of thing. Who really gives a shit other than the oppressed and the oppressors?

Just an FYI, OUTRAGE is showing on HBO this month.
Pretty good. The title says it all. Outrage!
A must see...

Ps. I didn't realize Governor Charlie Crist of Florida was not only more than likely gay, but very much anti-gay in his political actions. And to note, one of the likely republicans to run against Obama in 2012.
What's that old expression... with friends like these, who needs enemies.

just caught this article posted over thru msnc.com
http://blog.newsweek.com/blogs/popvox/archive/2009/10/05/outrage-the-case-against-outing-gay-politicians.aspx

having recently chatted with my mom's hubby (now that I'm living with them, having come down with living with the yankees to living in the south again), and I'm still surprised that people don't seem to grasp that it's the hypocrisy. I could care less what "moral sins" a democratic official has committed as they are not pushing a campaign filled with morals and telling others how they should live their lives; but I will always care about the exposed "moral sins" of a repub as it's their hypocrisy (live as I say, not as I do) that should make them IMHO ineligible to govern. i.e. I cared little about Bill Clinton's infidelity; however (now that I'm here in SC) I do have a problem with Gov Sanford's adultery as his party pushes the DOMA. To coin a phrase, it's the hypocrisy, stupid.

I don't think the author of that newsweek article gets that point either. Doh!
Lucky for me, the family has HBO, so I'll have to give it a look-see. Thanks for the headsup!

I don't know whether the film addresses this but another angle to this situation is whether politicians are being hypocritical if they are representing the beliefs of their constituents and not their personal beliefs. For example: you have representative who smokes cigarettes and believes people should be allowed to smoke in public places but the major of voters in his district clearly are against smoking in public. Should be vote his conscious or represent the wishes of the majority? If a politician is elected by people who are clearly against gay marriage even though he is personally for gay marriage which way should he vote?

Anybody who has lived in Florida knows that Charlie Crist is gay and always has been.  His partner of some 20 years was at his side when he became Governor and then disappeared, only to be recently replaced by his beard, er I meant wife.  Charlie is a supporter of the ban on adoptions by gay parents in Florida.

And, just because you might be gay it does not determine the way you vote. Like other sections of hte community, gay people have a diverse range of political views. I detest hypocrites, but I also detest a view that if you are gay you must vote a certain way. Sexuality should be irrelevant to how one votes.
