hello everyone! I come from Vietnam so my english is not good. expect people to sympathize and advise my case. two months ago I have a relationship with a prostitute and the condom broke and I have to ejaculate in the vagina of a prostitute my penis is the time in direct contact with the vagina of a prostitute is not protected only ~ 20 seconds. 19 hours later I was using pep. after the condom broke I have washed my penis with soap. my penis is normal, nothing unusual. 1 month after stopping my pep in serodia tested and received HIV-negative results. I ask you to risk of HIV infection have high? with negative results 1 month after discontinuation of pep I've been somewhat reassuring yet? I have to take the test again? thank you very much ! and expect people to advise my case

Yes, you do need to test again for a conclusive result, but you are very likely to get another negative result.
You need to test at three months following your last dose of PEP. The testing window period for hiv is three months after a risk, but when you take PEP for a month, you have to add one month to the window period.
Test at four months after the risk, three months after your last dose of PEP. I hope that is clear.
I fully expect you to continue to test hiv negative and so should you.

Your one month negative result IS reassuring, however it is NOT conclusive. You need to test again at three months post-PEP.
I do not expect your result to change, but you must test again to make sure.
Serodia is an approved antibody test used in SE Asia.

I am very worried. not perhaps because of a torn condom incident which I have HIV? hope everything goes well

The odds are in your favor that you are going to test negative. HIV is significantly more difficult to transmit from female to male than the other way around. Yours was a one-time, low level risk since the condom protected you until it broke.
Condom breakage is something that is not unusual. I've never known anyone to become infected that way so like Ann I do expect you will test negative.
Meantime while waiting to test you need to focus on other matters in your life. It will help to pass the waiting time more easily than you may imagine is possible.
You can test at 6 weeks after completing PEP. Assuming you test negative that will be a strong indication that you will test negative at 3 months after PEP for a conclusive, final result.

Every negative test result is a happy thing. But yours is too early to conclusive. Be patient. I expect you to come out of this ok.

The earlier it is begun after a risky incident the higher the success rate.
So in what was a relatively low level risk incident to begin with and with the negative result already received, I expect you will continue to test negative.
Now you just have to wait and there's really nothing more we can add at this point.

PEP does change the window period. Rather than having to wait 3 months from the date of the risk encounter you have to wait 3 months from the date you stop taking the medication.
3 months. Not 6 months.

Yes PEP is effective. If the sex worker you went with had HIV the use of PEP would have reduced your chances of being infected.
Now all you can do is wait for the test result.

As you are likely aware, we don't discuss symptoms as regards to HIV infection. HIV can have NO symptoms, and in rare cases people with primary infection are hospitalized. There's absolutely no way to even start the discussion.

You are reliably HIV negative. Your risk was extremely low to begin with.

The rash that sometimes (not always) accompanies hiv seroconversion does not itch nor is it raised or bumpy. If you didn't see it, you wouldn't know it was there.
You can test again at three months post-PEP if you feel you need to, but your result is not going to change. You were never likely to end up positive over this incident in the first place, PEP or no PEP.

Your previous negative results are not going to change.
If you're worried about your rash, see a doctor. It has nothing to do with hiv.

Great! That is a conclusive and a reliable result. There is no need for further testing.
You are HIV negative. Get on with your life.

At three months, it does not matter what generation test was used.
You are conclusively hiv negative and it's time you put this behind you. You do NOT have hiv!
Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!!!
If you haven't already, make sure you read through the condom and lube links in my signature line. A correctly used condom rarely breaks.

I ask a final question: I live where they say the following tests to pep 6 months. why do you say I have been concluded? if that is recommended by the CDC? or due to you based on your experience? actually I am still very worried and I think many people after 3 months pep too. would you please explain to me why pep is 3 months after the conclusion lightly. thank you very much!

The six month window period is outdated.
You are conclusively hiv negative. YOU DO NOT HAVE HIV!!!
You were never likely to end up hiv positive as the insertive partner following a condom break.
