Have you had folocolitus
« on: February 11, 2007, 02:59:56 pm »
Ive had Folicolitus for like a year now and i cant get rid of it.  When i shave my head bald, it goes away in about 2 days.  Whan i grow it back, once it hits 1/4" long, it comes back.  Ive tried a couple prescription shampoos and it still keeps comming back.  Has anyone had this?  How did you get rid of it? how long did it take?

Yes....  first off... you might consider not shaving for a while until it is gone, since it IS a bacterial infection.  (usually)  Anyway, simple antibiotics get rid of it for me.

Yes, I've had it quite bad, both on scalp and other sites, such as thighs, buttocks and forearms. My HIV doc recommended a shampoo called Nizoral for the scalp and a lotion called Dermol for the rest of the body. It has taken a while, probably a couple of months, to get it under control but I've definitely seem an improvement.

Like it says in JRE's link folliculitis can have different causes so it is probably a good idea to bring it up with your doc.

Hope you get it sorted - I know just how frustrating and undermining for your confidence this can be...
