lab work/Pneumonia shot today
« on: December 21, 2006, 05:15:00 pm »
3 month appt for labs today, and the new RN suggested (well, told me I was getting) a pneumonia shot, today. Since I faired quite well with my 1st Flu shot a month or so ago, she said this would be much easier than a flu shot. Hmm, my arm is KILLING me!! (where the shot was). I hope it goes away very soon.

Just took off my shirt- I have a nice plum sized knot there. No discoloration?? Called the office, they're gone for the day.

BP back to normal (thanks AM family!)  116/80

And if I'm not mistaken, the labwork guy (an MD is his own country) was flirting with me?! I asked him if he was done with me, he was, and he proceeded to do paperwork. I got up, turned away from him, lowered the pants a bit and started to tuck myself back in. He turned to me and started asking me what sports I'm into, how I got so big, etc...Told me I'm in great shape.  Hmm, unfortunately I'm not attracted :(

Thankfully the results won't be in til after Xmas!

LI -

I got both my flu and pneumonia  shots at the same time in different arms - not sure which arm got what but on one showed no reaction and on the other I got a bump about the size of a quarter and it was sore for a couple of weeks - so maybe that was the pneumonia side.  Been about a month now and everything is back to normal.  I am also taking warfarin (anti-coagulant) and think but am not positive it caused every injection site I had to get a little purple for a week or so including the shot site.  (also taking Procrit - that I inject into my flabby stomach, not as bad as it sounds....usually!)

Of course we can all react differently so probably good to follow up with your doctor.  And sorry to hear the lab guy isn't your type. At least you get some interest.  I go to the lab weekly and it's all women who seem to enjoy stabbing me with the needle sideways :)

Maybe there will be a different lab guy there for you next time!

Thanks Kev, small office, he's the only male there! it's a Ryan White clinic but you would never know it. When I arrived at 9:30, there they all stood, the receptionist, the RN, Tito the labguy, and the Dr. just waiting for me!

If it's not gone down by tomorrow, I'll give them a call. But in a nice way, I'm glad you got a bump too!

Hey Paul,

I never do the Flu shots but I do cruise the Exam Room.  I believe there may be a rule on "fraternizing" with the client/patient but that rule doesn't apply, I say, "joke em if they can't take a Fuc*".  Have the best day

Hi LI

Plum sized? Did they forewarn you you would get that? Was it the Pneumovax?

no, Alex, she said it would be like nothing. I don't know what type it was, unfortunately.

btw, it's more like the outside edge of a plum?

FYI - Saw this info on a couple of websites:

About half of those who get the vaccine have very mild side effects, such as redness or pain where the shot is given.

Less than 1% develop a fever, muscle aches, or more severe local reactions.

Severe allergic reactions have been reported very rarely.

As with any medicine, there is a very small risk that serious problems, even death, could occur after getting a vaccine.

Getting the disease is much more likely to cause serious problems than getting the vaccine.

What if there is a serious reaction?

What should I look for?

  • Severe allergic reaction (hives, difficulty breathing, shock)

I'd still call the doctor tomorrow of course to play it safe.

I got a nice big bump on my shoulder from the pnemovax as well.  It took about 4 days to go away.  Was about the size of a quarter, and raised up about an eighth of an inch.

Went away on it's own.

Hey Paul...

It is GOOD that your BP went back to normal. Also, the bump should go down in a bit. If not give them a quick call at the Doctor's office. Take care of YOU!

There's extra inches.....and here I thought everything is bigger here in Texas - which is true by the way.....oh, yeah the shots..the first time I got mine, the nurse must've done something wrong because it hurt like hell and after she gave the shot, blood came out.....that wasn't right....but hey, that's what happens with everyone's first time..LOL!  ::)

Ok this thread has done some twists and turns...let me add my 2 cents.

When I got my shot it was a cakewalk, no symptoms but will have to check to see if I'm due to get another one but I don't think so or they would've gotten me when I had my flu shot. I don't have to worry about my doc flirting with me, he's gay but he does give great hugs. About them extra inches, hmm, how come gay men say the bigger the better? With me you have to be atleast 7 inches but am not looking for no mandingo who is gonna try to give me all of him so I can end up in the E.R. with a tilted uterus, no thank you!!!!
