Title: please help ! worried
Post by: kish99 on January 09, 2014, 07:56:37 am
first of all thanks to all the people in this forum for their wonderful support!

I had an sexual exposure (unprotected vaginal sex with a female whom i met for the first time whose hiv status is unknown ) 25 days after the exposure i had this prolonged unknown high fatigue , low grade fever, headache , body aches , malaise ,diarrhea and my symptoms started getting worse day by day . i had checks for everything such as dengue ,malaria, tuberculosis , CBC , chest xrays everything came back normal at 6 weeks post exposure i had slight pain in my neck and later on it turned out to be swollen lymph nodes . I did get chlamydia from this exposure :-[

ive had tests for hiv at
ELISA HIV 1&2 at 5weeks NEGATIVE (generation unknown)
COMBAIDS 1&2 at 7 weeks NEGATIVE (done at government clinic)
ELISA HIV 1&2 at 9.5weeks NEGATIVE
ELISA HIV 1&2 at 10.5weeks NEGATIVE
ELISA HIV 1&2 at 12weeks NEGATIVE

at ten weeks i did have a master health check up which showed no significant disorders except for a elevated liver function tests and vitamin d deficiency.

at 13 weeks i was so despaired by my swollen lymph nodes and persisting symptoms i had an HIV-1 RNA PCR test which came out to be negative.

although my symptoms most lasted for nearly 12 weeks post exposure i still have this persistent cervical lymph node swelling and sore throat and some malaise even after 14 weeks.

i know  having chlamydia from her makes me more vulnerable to acquire hiv and those symptoms i had/have, do you consider my tests conclusive after all these typical ARS symptoms with elevated liver enzymes (everything typical for acute HIV)or do i need any further tests.
Im from India and would you consider the test results to be as accurate as elsewhere in the world? ppl here consider 6 months as conclusive

PS: this was the first sexual encounter ever in my life (worst ever :'() and i have never fallen so sick in my entire life

You do not have HIV , its conclusive .

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv. Some of the other STIs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

just to be straight
i expected this answer but my lymph nodes on my neck are swollen as big as moth balls . i still have this malaise and general weakness even after 3 moths . usually i was  a very healthy person without any of these symptoms ever, before this exposure and i cant think of any other reason for being so ill.  :-\
in fact it is my prolonged illness that made me worry about hiv and soon i have realized all the symptoms ive been through to be HIV related. :-[
so one last time do i need any further test ?(or a different may be)
what are the chances of me to be one of those who seroconvert lately?

You do not have HIV . If you are sick go see your doctor and find out why, its not HIV that's making you sick . I'm serious, if you are that ill go to the doctor now and find out why . Best of luck .
