  • sweet Ann what you think babe...
Hi All:
As I sit here getting my 2nd cup of coffee in me, I wanted to share some exciting things going on and unfolding in my life that have things a bit hectic right now, but that I am very excited about.

I am in the process of finishing my MBA. I am down to my last course (Capstone). This involves a lot of writing, several team-based conference calls per week, the completion of a business simulation, and solving and/or providing recommendations on a real-world business problem with a client. The pressure is intense in this course, as it should be, but I am almost to the finish line - with completion of my MBA expected by mid-May.

New job! I have been offered and accepted a position with AIDS United (AU). AU is a national HIV/AIDS policy, advocacy and program organization with a mission of ending the AIDS epidemic in the United States. The organization is based in Washington D.C.; however, because of current commitments here in Miami, the organization has agreed to bring me on part-time (working 15-19 hours per week), working remotely from Florida. I will travel to D.C. this Tuesday and be in our nation's capital until Sunday for some on-site meetings. I will then return to Miami to begin the work remotely. We are doing the remote position on a 4-month temporary basis. At the end of the 4 months, we will see how well the "fit" is and if we are a match for each other, we would then see about me going full-time and relocating to D.C.

I can not tell you just how excited I am to be able to use my grant-writing skills to assist AIDS United in accomplishing its mission. I am looking forward to being immersed with others who are focused on ending the AIDS epidemic here in the U.S. and being part of a team that includes so many who are known and respected in this field.

Finally, my current job (which I will retain while working the part-time, remote position in my "off hours") is keeping me extremely busy with three large federal grant proposals being developed that have the potential of bringing an additional $10 million in services to our college's students to assist them in being retained and completing their programs of study towards being awarded degrees in a variety of academic disciplines.

I have also been selected to be a federal grant reviewer for a large federal health care-related agency. I started the reviews this weekend and will be done with those by April 2nd. It feels great to be able to review grant proposals that will result in agencies and institutions being awarded funds to assist in increasing the number of qualified professionals employed in targeted health care fields.

Busy? Yes. Happy? Very. Excited? You bet. Wonder how I am going to do it all? I will. I feel myself being molded into a more focused person and I am very excited to see how the opportunities that are on the horizon play out.

Just wanted to share what has been going on and give some "back-up" as to why I haven't been able to post as much here. Who knows....In a few months (mid-to-late Summer), phildinftlaudy may become phildinDC.  ;D

How exciting! Congratulations! on both the new job and the near completion of your degree.

AU is the sole funder of the SC HIV Task Force and boy do we LOVE those people. The whole org is filled with very dedicated, kind and friendly people. You should fit right in! If you're still with them when they hold their annual grantee Southern REACH Convening (and if you get to go LOL) let me know so we can meet up for a drink or something.

Congrats and Best wishes on coping with all the changes!!  ;D

Congratulations on making it to the end of your masters.  That's a big accomplishment and you should be very proud.

The new job sounds amazing, it's great to see that you are taking your expertise in grant writing and making a difference both to your college and to the HIV org in DC.

Your making a difference!

This is such good news and they are getting a super employee by bringing you onboard.  I do know one thing (even without personally meeting you yet), you will give it all you've got.  Congrats and best of luck!

Thanks everyone for the kind and supportive words.

I fly to D.C. tomorrow (it has to be one of my favorite cities in the U.S.), so I am looking forward to being there for the next five days.

Congrats, Phil.  I've been following your posts on facebook, so have been seeing all the work you're doing.  It will pay off soon enough.

Good luck on the new job, also.  Hopefully it will work out, don't see why it wouldn't.  Will you be able to handle the DC winters lol?   I know you will.  You've got a lot of drive, and I think it's so wonderful.  Good luck with the capstone!

You read my mind. I think his 7 day forecast posting will look a bit different.  ;) (still, it will be warmer than yours or mine Betty)   :P
