Hillary Forgets Gays??

I was watching an interview with Secretary Clinton about Chelsea's upcoming nuptials.  They discuss Chelsea and her fiance having different religions.  Hillary says we live in a country that gives people the right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness.  She says the barriers to marriage between different religions and colors have gone now. 

Okay, true.  But she left out gays.  She could have said, "except for gay Americans but we'll get there", or something like that.  I like the Clinton's, but felt during the campaign Hillary wasn't big on gay issues.  I rarely ever heard her mention gay rights--and I watch and read a ton of news.  I remember she was asked about a general saying homosexuality was a sin and a character flaw.  When asked to comment, she said she would let Americans decide for themselves.  She wouldn't state her opinion.  In contrast, Obama talked about gay rights at just about every rally and said the general was wrong. 

Am I being too hard on her?  It just seemed like she felt all was great with marriage now.  I realize her husband took on gays in the military during his first week in office and used up political capital to do it.  As we know, he compromised, but he obviously cared about gays.

She was answering a question about interfaith marriage.  PLUS she was talking about her only daughter's upcoming wedding -- why would/should she bring a political point into the discussion???

So you are being interviewed on national television. You are the MOTHER OF THE BRIDE.  She is your only child and you've done your best to protect her from your and your husband's careers in public life.

Plus you are Secretary of State in a country at war, stemming from an attack by Muslim fundamentalists. You are asked a tricky question about religion which every diplomat in every country is going to parse 5 diferent ways.

Oh, and you can't help but reflect on your own marriage and the fact that every single person you will ever meet knows that your husband cheated on you and lied about it and was almost kicked out as President of the United States because of it.

Am I being too hard on her?

Just a matter of perspective. The issue is a lot more important to you than to her - so naturally you give it greater emphasis.

Why, yes. The world does revolve around me.  I did ask whether I was being too hard on her.  She mentioned religion, because that was brought up by Andrea Mitchell.  She then mentioned color on top of that when that wasn't asked.  I don't see why see couldn't have mentioned the ongoing fight for gays--since she brought up color.  That's all.  Maybe it wasn't on her mind.  However, if you mention religion and color, I don't see how you'd forget gays.  But, I'll give her some slack.  Even I am not perfect--the world sometimes revolves around the sun instead of me.  

Modified:  About bringing the political point into it-- most Americans once said interracial marriage was a political issue, but I understand that most Americans think gay marriage is political and I understand what you meant.
