Plymouth side-trip

Hubby and I are planning to take a side-trip to Plymouth to see the Mayflower II.  It's an hour drive from Boston.  We will probably go Saturday morning if nothing else is planned with the group.  We'll have room for a couple folks if anyone else is interested.

I was planning city tour (freedom tour) for Saturday morning. Is Plymouth something that can be incorporated or is it too far?

I haven't confirmed anything yet, if this is something the majority would prefer to do.

I think it would be very difficult to incorporate a trip to Plymouth with the city tour -- you get to Plymouth from Boston (and back again) using the same highways that folks use to get to and from Cape Cod and other south facing beaches (where the water is warmer in cooler New England).  The traffic is always an open question on this route -- particulary on summer weekends.  The hour long trip could easily double.  Saturday may seem a better day for this route, but most weekly beach house rentals start and end on Saturdays so the traffic can be quite heavy (although usually better than a Friday evening).

If I were planning a trip to Plymouth, I would consider a weekday -- leaving shortly after the morning rush and coming back mid-afternoon.

Just my thoughts after battling Boston traffic for a number of years.

Dennis, no, we're good.  I looked on the "schedule of events" and didn't see anything scheduled for Saturday morning, that's why we put it out there.  If you have something planned, we'll change our's and just go as a side trip on our way home.  No biggie whatsoever.

I think Mini will really enjoy Plymouth.  I went once when I was about 3.5 and once when I was 6-7, and I really liked it.  They had a museum with life-sized wax figures in various scenes--in particular I remember one where all the pilgrims where on a boat or on  the shore, and it's all dark and stormy.  I hope they still have that--this was like 40, um I mean 30 years ago..  They also let us put our hands on the actual Plymouth Rock.
