Hello and thank you for this forum...
I work at the airport servicing airplanes. Today i opened an external compartment and the coil in the latch had broken off and was standing up like a needle right where you open the latch...so when i went ahead to press the latch i got poked Deeply by the broken coil on my finger, and was bleeding. My question.... There was another person that serviced that panel 1-2 minutes before and by the look of it, there was no way that latch would have opened without poking yourself... It was 0 degrees outside with snow and rain... Could hiv be passed to me if he poked himself before me and he had hiv and then i poked my self... Should i even worry about this? Should i get a test? Is it safe to have sex with my wife with no worries... Thank you

Scared,
You absolutely did NOT have a risk for hiv infection.
Hiv is a fragile, difficult to transmit virus that is primarily transmitted INSIDE the human body, as in unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse where the virus never leaves the confines of the two bodies.
Once outside the body, small changes in temperature, and pH and moisture levels all quickly damage the virus and render it unable to infect. For this reason you are in NO danger of becoming infected from hiv on an environmental surface, regardless of cuts or whatever.
You did NOT have a risk and you do NOT need to test. Go have sex with your wife.

Hi Ann Impressive!!! for the fast response -- thank you..
one last question - the 1-2 minutes interval between him poking himself and me is irrelevant? Is it enough for time for the virus to become not contagious?
Thanks again and happy new year!
-
Scared,
Yes, it's irrelevant and yes, that's plenty of time for the virus to become damaged and inactive.
Not one person has ever been infected through an environmental situation such as you describe and you are not going to be the first.
You were NOT at risk. Believe me, if you were, we'd tell you. We want to stop new infections, not add to them.
The only time you'd likely be at risk is if you have intercourse outside your marriage without using a condom. If you are ever tempted, make sure you use a condom and you'll be well protected.
Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!!!

Good morning Ann or doctors
Quick question... Went to a strip club, i dont frequent them, but at one point i was sitting in the bar and this girl came over, i perhaps for 5 seconds sucke on her breast an she was lactating, so i perhaps got a couple of drops in my mouth, though i did not taste anything... But she was lactating because she then told me and showed me... Do i need to get tested, im married an do not want to take a risk, if there was even one? Would i have been able to taste breast milk if it wen in my mouth? Is it sour?
Thank you for your help

I've merged your threads here. In the future please follow our rule as stated in the opening thread of this section and use only this same thread anytime you want to make an entry.
As for the lactating incident, you are worrying needlessly. Even if the woman was HIV+, it is only an infant under 6 months of age who would be at risk because its immune system has not yet kicked in. An adult is not at risk for sucking the nipple of a lactating woman.
There is no cause for concern nor any need for testing over this incident.

Thank u Dr. Velez
I have this paranoia all the time of getting Hiv even from things that are not risky like what i mentioned before... What do you recommend i do so i dont have this fear and paranoia about it? Its like if i drink of the cup of someone else i freak out... Im tired of it... Or with the dancer incident, my anxiety went off the roof... Any input will help
Thank you again

Scared,
We can't help you with your hiv anxiety here. Ask your doctor for a referral to a mental health therapist.

Dr . Velez or Ann
Went to a stripclub last night with some friends. I do not like getting a dance from the strippers. However one of them came and ask me if i want a dance , i was trying to tell her later, here reaction was to put her index finger outside my mouth, so i would hush ( she was trying to be cute, she meant no harm by it) less than a minute before she did that , she was giving my friend a dance, fully nude, and i saw her touch her vagina with the same hand of the finger she put on my mouth to hush me..
Now i m a nervous and anxiety filled
Is there any risk whatsoever? Her finger did not go in my mouth, but it touched maybe my teeth an gum in front of my mouth, since my lips were squeezed.
Im afraid that she might've had vaginal fluid in her finger.
Should i get a test ?
Is it safe to have sex with my wife, i would feel so bad if i give her anything.
If i had cracked lips or a cut on my lip, would that be a risk then?
This was a nasty stripclub, if she was HIV positive, would that increase the risk?
What is she had a cut on her finger or hand?
Thank you for your help, im trying to put this behind me now.

No risk and you do not need to test.
HIV is transmitted by;
Unprotected penetrative anal and/or vaginal sex
Sharing works with other IV drug abusers
Mother to child

As stated in the opening thread of this section, it's a rule of this site for members to keep all of their entries in one thread. I've merged your entries here so in the future this is the only thread which you should be using. Thanks for your cooperation.
As for your latest concern, as Rod told you there was no risk whatsover for HIV. The only confirmed risks for the sexual transmission of HIV are unprotected vaginal and anal intercourse. As long as you properly and consistently use condoms for those activities you will be well protected.
So there's no cause for concern this time. Get on with your life.

Thx doc
So even if her hands would have been wet in vaginal fluid, stiill same assesment, when she touched my mouth?
Thx again
-
HIV is unable to reproduce outside its living host (unlike many bacteria or fungi, which may do so under suitable conditions), except under laboratory conditions; therefore, it does not spread or maintain infectiousness outside its host.
HIV is transmitted by;
Unprotected penetrative anal and/or vaginal sex
Sharing works with other IV drug abusers
Mother to child
As you were advised you never had an exposure.
-
Scared,
There are three reasons why having a stripper's fluid laden fingers fingers in your mouth doesn't pose an hiv risk to you.
Fluids on fingers are fluids OUTSIDE the body and would not have contained viable hiv.
2. Not only is saliva not infectious, but it also contains over a dozen different proteins and enzymes that damage hiv and render it unable to infect.
3. Hiv can only infect a very few, very specific types of cells, cells which are not found in abundance in the mouth.
You're worrying unnecessarily. If hiv were as easily transmitted as you are imagining, every adult would be hiv positive by now, just like everyone has had a cold/flu at some point in their life by the time they reach adulthood.
Speaking of colds/flu, if the stripper had a cold or flu and coughed or sneezed in her hand and then put her fingers in your mouth, you'd likely end up with a cold or the flu - but NOT hiv. Hiv just doesn't work that way and you can thank your lucky stars for that fact.
You have NOT had a risk for hiv infection!
Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!!!

Hi Ann... Thx for your response...last quick question and im done bugging you
You say the virus dies, is that even within seconds ...and then touched my lips?
And her finger did not go all the way in my mouth, just pressed on my lips..
Does that make the risk even less? And what if the lips were cracked and maybe bleeding?
Thank you again for your time.
-
Scared,
You had no risk - even if your lips were cracked and bleeding - and we've already explained to you why.
NO. RISK.
USE CONDOMS FOR ANAL OR VAGINAL INTERCOURSE, CORRECTLY AND CONSISTENTLY, AND YOU WILL AVOID HIV INFECTION. IT REALLY IS THAT SIMPLE!!!!!

Thx ann... Just a few minutes ago i was doing laundry and found some blood in area of my shirt whete i wiped my mouth after the stripper touched my lips. My lips where not bleeding , so it may be blood from the stripper... Does that change anything if it was direct blood from her finger to my lips?
I feel so anxious about this... Thx again for your help. I promise this the last question... And your answers help...
-
No, that latest detail doesn't change a thing. You were not a risk. Let this go and get on with your life. Really.

Ann or dr Velez
So 28 days after the stripper put her finger with vaginal fluid (maybe blood) in my lips / mouth i got a severe sore throat, no fever or rash, maybe just some swollen nodes on my throat..i freaked out and tested at 33 days after incident with oral oraquick and came back negative..
I feel better now anxiety wise just a few questions..
Could a sore throat for a week be ars, no fever or rash, etc 28 days later?
In the slim chance that i was exposed to hiv, a test 33 days after would it have tested positive if my sore throat was related to HiV, since the sore throat started at day 27?
Do i need another test or believe the 33 day test?
Is a sore throat alone a sign of ARS?
Thank u
-
Scared,
As we've repeatedly told you, you weren't at risk for hiv infection. Re-read the replies you've already had - our answers are not going to change.
Your negative result is not going to change should you test further over this NO RISK situation.
If your throat continues to bother you, see a doctor. It has nothing to do with a virus you for which you have not been at risk and do not have.
You do NOT have hiv!!!

Hello Ann and doctor Velez
I'm once again afraid i got hiv.
situation:
- Stripper / CSW at strip club offered me sex for a certain amount of money.
- I was really drunk and said NO, and told her that i was paranoid about diseases, hiv.
- in my drunken state however I invited her to my hotel room, for her to dance for me privately while i would please myself.
- She agreed and that is what we did. She came and danced and i masturbated to it. I was very drunk and remember mostly everything (fuzzy memories) but I even remember her leaving afterwards and then me falling asleep
- The next morning i woke up thinking that perhaps i had unprotected sex with her and don't remember. I even texted her an asked her and she said we didn't but she might be lying, i don't know...
- 10 days after this incident my anxiety is high because i came down with a SORE THROAT, GREEN THICK MUCUS ON THROAT, CONGESTION .....NO FEVER OR RASH AT ALL.
question
Could my symptoms be ARS ...there is no fever or rash?
do you think i would have remembered unprotected sex? . I was very drunk but remember mostly everything very blurry though
If I did have unprotected sex what are my chances?
Could my mind be playing tricks on me?
Is it safe to have sex with my wife?
Thank you Doctor, I always appreciate your help.

If you are not sure if you had unprotected sex with an escort then how am I supposed guess what happened .
We don't discuss symptoms because they are not specific to HIV , the only way to know your status is to test . Since you are not sure if you had unsafe sex ... and I doubt you did , you will need to get tested . You can wait 6 weeks past the night in question and test , then test again in 3 months to confirm the results .
I would think that you would remember if you had sex so you probably didn't have a risk .

Hello doctor
Im extemely anxious about this situation.. Went to a stripclub yesterday and i attempted to sit on one of the tables. When i was poked and scratched with something sharp when pulling the chair out to sit down. I immediately freaked. I checked what it was ... and it was a wood staple from the chair that came apart and it was sticking out.. Penetrated the skin and there was some bleeding... My fear is that maybe someone who was sitting there or one of the dancers (more risk)poke themselves 2 minutes before me as well and they may have hiv or hepatatis. Any risk? Should i stop sex with my wife?

HIV can not be transmitted in the maner you describe. It is far too fragile to withstand the environment, and can only be spread through unprotected vaginal and anal intercourse, immediate sharing of IV drug needles, and ocasionally from mother to child.
It does not remain viable in the oxygen-rich environment.
There was absolutely no risk in the encounter you mention.
You have been coming on this forum for over a year and a half, all with fanciful situations that have been patiently explained to you time and again. It is clear that you have no intention of actually listening to this forum's advice regarding HIV, but are using this as a confessional.
I am alerting the moderation staff to be made aware of this.

Scared,
You've been coming here long enough and we've explained hiv transmission to you enough times that you should already know that you're not going to become infected from getting stuck by a staple.
Re-read your entire thread again - and again and again and again until it sinks in.
In adults, hiv is transmitted through unprotected anal intercourse, unprotected vaginal intercourse, and sharing drug injecting equipment. Getting stuck with a staple is in NO WAY similar to sharing drug injecting equipment, so don't even bother trying to go down that rabbit hole with us. It won't wash here.
You are beyond the scope of these forums. I suggest you try therapy to help you get to the bottom of your irrational fear of hiv. We cannot help you with that here.
