Title: Off Bway in previews IT GOES WITHOUT SAYING
Post by: Andy Velez on September 01, 2006, 09:33:10 am
Dear All,

Last night I saw a moving and funny one man show off Bway at the Rattlestick Theater on Waverly Place, Bill Bowers' IT GOES WITHOUT SAYING. It's a combination of spoken word and mime and I enjoyed it as much as anything I've seen in recent times. It follows his journey from Missoula, Montana, to the present day in New York with many stops in between including growing up gay and being someone whose life has been intimately touched by AIDS.

For me this kind of theatre is much more satisfying than helicopters and chandeliers crashing on stage so if you're around NY and looking for something to see, I recommend checking it out.

And no, I'm not getting a commission on ticket sales. It was one of those times in the theatre when I got excited which always makes me want to have everyone I care about go see it.

Too bad I'm not in town 'cause this is exactly the type of Musical that I like!  The last time I saw The Phantom (last May), I slept through it...

This is not a musical. It's a performance piece. And it will be running until sometime in October, perhaps longer if it gets good reviews.

I'm actually going back next week to see for a second time.

Aaaargh! At moments like this I regret ever having left the East Coast. Today is the first home football game of the season in Iowa City; the whole town is drunk, and chanting loudly. Can't imagine feeling more alien. Too too sad.  >:(  :(  Jay
