"The Hunger," by Jonathan Kivett
« on: June 19, 2006, 12:21:52 pm »
Hi Everyone...

I just wanted to draw everyone’s attention to the writing of Jonathan Kivett (jkinatl2) featured in the current issue of POZ.  The editorial staff of the magazine has been following Jonathan’s incredibly prolific and self-actualized Blog and Forums postings for quite some time.  In turn, they asked him to submit a piece for the “Thinking” section  – the last, but most coveted page of the magazine.

Jonathan’s short but incredibly humorous and witty reflection on sex – both forms of the noun – eloquently gives a personal "afterword" to the July issue, focusing on HIV and sex.  The piece is a true testament to Jonathan’s gift as a writer, leaving his readers thinking, laughing, and relating to what he has written.

This won’t likely be the last of Jonathan’s contributions to POZ (or AIDSmeds for that matter); the editorial staff has been telling me for weeks that his is a joy and a marvel to work with.

When they told me I had a 250 word limit, I freaked a little. I mean, the email I sent asking about the word limit was longer than that <grin>.

Hell, I've had THAT many words in a toilet session.  Not sure POZ is ready for that article though.  Nice job with what you got though.

The Hunger... for more words?

A 250 word limit? That's criminal!

Nice job Jonathan. You must have been very busy with the scissors and paste. :D

Jonathon is quite gifted as a writer.  We see this everyday as he takes ideas that are based on any level of the spectrum and can come across straight forward or frightfully entertaining.  As we can see in his current avatar, that is gods hand touching his mind (god being in lower case to not seem pretentious) with a ray of hope blessing his mind.  Have the best day

Editorial word counts can really drive ya nutz sometimes, Jonathan.

Within that restriction, as was so during the decades of movie censorship, it can also stimulate creativity to get your points across. And it sure as hell is a means to learning about paring down to essentials.

Hopefully you will get to do longer pieces in POZ and elsewhere.

Congratulations on the excellent 250!

(Jeezus, it took me 49 words to say that and I'd hardly started. Cut! Cut! Cut!)

Cheers,
Andy Velez

Way to go Jonathan!!!

My gosh, 250 word limit is criminal.  I could type 250 words in the blink of an eye and than some.  In time though, you'll get the hang of it (rereading and editing, cutting it down to the necessary points you want to get across)... And should they give you more space and more words to play with -- that would be FANTASTIC!!!  I love reading your stuff.  You amaze me.

Keep 'em coming Jonathan.  I look forward to reading more.
