AMG Dates
« on: February 07, 2008, 08:23:29 pm »
Ok, so we know where we're having the AMG, and we know what month we're having it.  Now we need to figure out when in August we're having it.  I'd like to suggest we have it the week following the IAC (which runs from August 3 to 8, 2008).

Basically, if there are no real, compelling reasons to not have it then, can we choose that as a date?  It's not that far off and we need to get working on hotels, flights, and grants.  We need to move forward with this to make it happen.  What do those who are going to try to attend think?

Good for me and Jeromy as well, though we also remain open should there be a number of people with schedule conflicts.

I'll third those dates! If it gives us a chance to see some of the folks who are coming to Mexico for the conference anyway, then it makes sense to me.

Actually is this worthy of one of those poll thingamagigs?

I don't think we actually had a poll for this in the past (besides the month).  I thought about doing a poll, but it seemed silly; I mean, how many choices would it have to have?  If we do decide to have a poll, we'd need to get an idea of what dates are good or not so good.  I think just throwing it out there with a fairly specific ( + or - a few days) is definitely the way to get this thing going.

How about Thurs, Aug 6 to Sun, Aug 10  as the official dates of AMG? IF people want to come earlier and/or stay longer like they did in SF, not a problem.

I agree no poll is necessary.  Let's carry this thread for a few days and then just go with what the majority says.  Time to move on.

Sorry Robert, but Thursday is August 7th.  I know I'm one catty bitch!  Please forgive me, please.  You can slap me if you're still angry with me when we meet again.

Thom and I like that weekend for all the reasons everyone have suggested.  It overlaps with IAC and hopefully some of the attendees (including Peter, Tim and Andy) will stay over to spend time with our unique group.  What an opportunity!

We also agree that we need to try to lock in dates soon.  I have a 40 Year Class Reunion to work around and our Tucker will be expecting her first litter of pups shortly after AMG.  That event is a big dollar ticket item for us and we have to be with her for the event.

Hugs to all, R&T

Rick....

you're absolutely right.  That's why I'm not a decision maker.  I'll come up with some ideas....half-baked at that....and let the kindness of my friends here at Aidmeds show me how it can be done.

Which brings me to another point.  Another kind reader pointed out that some of us might be going to the XVII International Aids Conference (IAC) which begins on the 3 and continues through the 8th.  IF we start our AMG Gathering on Thurs, the 7th, then those attending the IAC would miss the 1st day.

So why don't we start ours on Friday, Aug 8 through Tues. Aug 12?

And, of course, you can come earlier or stay later.

For all of you who would like to attend the AMG 08 in Mexico City it's time to have your voice heard. I am in agreement regarding the dates Robert suggested and I also feel NO POLLS required. I am open to dates of the week following IAC too. Like everyone else, I would like the specifics dates to be established as soon as possible.
If booking hotel rooms is a difficulty due to slight overlap of IAC -- we can easily adjust dates by a couple of days.
Concerning overlap of IAC conference days with AM Gathering 08: While I believe it would be terrific to meet any of the staff members of this site who may be attending the conference, I suggest that someone should:  a.) check to make sure whether they (Peter, Tim, Andy, other staff members) are attending. b.) Are they attending the full term of the conference.
c.) If they are available beyond those conference days or after conference hours. This conference may be very demanding and a bit hectic for AM attendees.

AMG 08 Gathering early arrivals: IAC delegates only will be allowed entrance to conference area as it is fee based; conference proceedings are not accessible to general public. However, "The AIDS 2008 Global Village is open to both conference delegates and non-delegates (including community organizations from around the world, local/national groups and the general public) and enables greater civil society involvement and exchange." The Global Village will be set up at the Las Americas Hippodrome at the main entrance into Centro Banamex.

I agree with those dates.  And also agree that we don't need a poll.  If there are serious issues with those dates, people can make it known here.

Of course you can attend, Armando.
I would get a passport.
Apply for it now and you'll have it in plenty of time. I think mine took  6-8 weeks to process. Can't recall exactly but that sounds right. Was sent through the USPS.

I think those are good dates from the feedback received so far, David_NC. Wait. Maybe Jan had to check on something before commiting to those dates.
If it's a go with Jan, I motion we start the day off Friday touring the Global Village of the IAC....and maybe arrange beforehand to have dinner with AM Delegate(s)???..........any way it's a good schedule for Friday, Aug 8--the final IAC date--our first full AMG 08 date.
