Who's Getting Fat??!!
« on: August 10, 2011, 05:56:32 pm »
I'm bringing this to the women's' forum because men just don't have the same body fat issues. Ok... Ok... some men do but specifically a women's concern from the time she's pretty young is her weight, right?

So I've watched my weight for years and years... yo-yo'd on all the diet fads and did Aerobics (back when it was just that)... in the past 10 years or so I got used to carrying a few extra pounds. Haven't fluctuated up or down more than 10 or 15 pounds. I dropped about 30 pounds when I was hospitalized last year and  when I was well enough to appreciate my new figure... I did. But of course with the return of my health... and the bunch of meds I'm now taking, the 30 pounds found me pretty quick... mostly around my waist.

I really eat pretty small meals... a sandwich, or fish or chicken... sometimes beef. I'm not an over-eater or someone who eats for comfort, I think my body has just figured out how to get by on nothing. I'm apathetic about it though because (I'm sure this has deeper implications) I can't imagine ever meeting anyone who would want me regardless of what my body looks like... it's diseased.

Not sure why I brought this up. Guess I wondered if other women go crazy this way. Maybe it's menopause... like 3 years ago when I used to have a period.

Hmm... ?? ??? ????

I was happy when I lost my 25 or lbs., not happy that it happened in 2 weeks.  Not sure if my weight loss was lipo or just from puking every time I moved. I have since gained 10 back, but I'm also walking up to 4 miles a day to help keep it off.  I do like to eat, so I figure the walking is a trade off  for eating 6 ears of corn.

I haven't hit menopause yet.  I think it's just lurking around the corner, I'm 46 so I'm sure it will hit soon.

I'm 45 and menopausal and have gained weight.  About 5 and 1/2 years ago I weighed a lot less than I do now.  I have quite a bit of fat around the middle, but a lot of it came on when I took Crixivan years ago.  So, what I can't lose is lipo.  And some mornings, when I get in the shower before work, I stare at it, and think how much I would love to get rid of it.

But, I'm more than my middle.  And my friends love me for who I am, so does my family.  I'm not worried about a relationship at this point.  Some days it is hard, but ya gotta learn to be o.k. with it.

Betty, I don't worry about my belly either. Look at it this way - there's more of us to love! :)

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts
