Having herpes affect HIV progression?

I pretty much think what the answer to my question is but I tend to forget to ask my doctor these questions. Has anyone asked their doctor or know if having herpes affects HIV disease? If so how?

I have herpes too -- I believe that an outbreak can cause a temporary increase in VL.

I will also tell you that once I started on HAART, I had a couple of bad outbreaks at first, but now I almost never have them (once in the last year).  You can, of course, go on suppressive therapy for your herpes if you have a lot of outbreaks.

Probably a good idea to NOT do your VL test during an outbreak.

Hope that helps.

One last thing -- you really should write down your questions when they hit you and take them into your exam.  This way you aren't forgetting to ask you doctor things that are on your mind.

Mike
