Hi
Seeking info on condom slip situation . I was travelling abroad and had brief sex encounter in massage parlour twice last week. This was my first experience with casual worker. First time everything was ok - used condom for both oral and vagina sex. No slip or break
2nd time on 11th, I used condom for both oral and vagina. During vagina sex the girl was on top and inserting . Was very brief , less than a minute, then I went soft and my penis came out. I realised then the condom had slipped out and was lying just at bottom of my penis. I am not sure if it is possible for condom to slip while during motion. The whole episode was less than a minute with her moving up and down 3-4 times before I felt my penis came out. I did not come inside her. after I noticed condom was not there I came and wiped myself with towel.Although my penis was slight wet when I saw no condom and didn't check if condom broke , tgoughtgink highly unlikely.
She said she thinks my penis didn't go deep , just rubbed in front few inches and that when it came off the condom must have fallen out . I only came after that.
I did touch her vagina. She said she always practices with condom for both oral and vagina and does not do it regularly. She was off work switching between parlours for at least 15 days and had started in the new place a 9 days before and this was her first service in new place. She did say that her general blood tests are normal and she had no urine infection. Although I did not ask when she tested . I guess sometime back . Although she said she will now test.
I visited clinic today and was advised I can consider PEP although the risk is low.
I have just started pep dose after 69 hrs of exposure.
My questions:
1. What's my risk of HIV or other STDs?
2. What symptoms and when should I look for them?
3) Is PEP an overkill and did condom did the job?
4) when do side effects of PEP start -after 1 or 2 or 3 days?

Sorry for long post.

Your risks are low for STD's and lower still for HIV.  Check with your healthcare provider whether you should test or STD's/STI's other than for HIV antibodies.

PEP was likely overkill, but you are on it now, so continue to work with your healthcare provider and adhere to the PEP regimen and take the subsequent tests for HIV antibodies at appropriate and relevant times.

All of your questions regarding symptoms can't be answered because symptoms, if they occur at all, whether because of HIV infection or as the result of PEP, vary widely from individual to individual.  Most likely, you will not experience side effects at all.

Hi Ptrk3
Thx for the response. I'm being tested for other STDs in 2 weeks time.
If PEP is overkill then do you think I can/should stop it? Or continue to be fail safe ?
How long does it take for PEP side effects to show up? I read somewhere it's worst for 1week ? Does it take 2-3 days in the first instance for the side effects to show up?

Hi

If you started a course of medication than finish it, if you think you are having side effects see a doctor. Most side effects are only very mild if any, most people simply experience none and if they do it settles in a few weeks, to be honest the course of meds is not very long.

Reading your story i doubt you had any real risk to start with but test at 6 & 13 weeks post finishing PEP for peace of mind. In the meantime move on with your life as normal.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:
Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, every time, no exceptions.

Keep in mind that some sexual practices which may be described as ‘safe’ in terms of HIV transmission might still pose a risk for transmission of other STI's, so please do get fully tested regularly and at least yearly for all STI's including but not limited to HIV and test more frequently if unprotected intercourse occurs

Also note that it is possible to have an STI and show no signs or symptoms and the only way of knowing is by testing.

More information on HIV Basics, PEP, TaSP and Transmission can be found through the links in my signature to our POZ pages, this includes information on HIV Testing

Kind regards

Jim

Hi Jim
Thx for your advice. I'm now one week into the Pep medication and thankfully not much side effect except feeling a bit queasy , tired for 3-4 hrs after taking Truvada.
My clinic gave me a date for eating on 28th day for DUO testing.
I had a bit of sore throat/ glands around tonsil area. Not sure if this is any symptom or just normal flu like symptom that's going around.
Also one more question:
You mentioned that you don't think I had any real risk. Do you think that the first instance where I did use condom properly could also have carried any risk?  That was on 6th which will make it 2 weeks and therefore time for any symptoms ? Sorry if I sound concerned for no reason. Just looking for some assurance
Best
F

Using a condom properly is protected sex:  you had no risk for HIV infection because of that incident.
