HIV medication costs are outrageous.
« on: December 30, 2016, 11:26:22 am »
Lucky for me I have insurance to cover it.  But it's not uncommon for it to cost $100 a day or more, and most people don't earn $700 a week take home pay to cover it.
Pray God you can cope
I know you have a little life in you yet.
I know you have a lot of strength left.

Hello.  That's certainly true.  But only half the story.

Do you know anyone in the world who is paying retail price (your hypothetical 3k a month) in developed Western countries?

I don't.

No but I have an acquaintance who gets his HIV meds from India.    So even with copays and insurance it's cheaper for him to find them elsewhere.

Vote Democratic.

There are MANY reasons to vote Democratic, but this is not one of them.

Neither party have the balls to take on the health care lobbies (Hospital, and Pharmaceutical in particular), so nothing is ever done about the outrageous cost of medicines - or health care in total.  The Dems did expand insurance coverage, but that is not the issue here, it's the cost.
Obamacare was written by the Health Care lobbies -- the Pharm lobby, in particular, gave some things in order to ensure the gov't would not negotiate for price reduction.  The Dems could have stood fast on that, but they didn't because they wanted the donations they get from the lobbies.

Until our leaders have the balls to do what is right, we, in the US, will continue to pay outrageous costs for our health care.  Of course, most Americans don't care because "someone else" pays most of it.

Obama care helped in ways that I was able to work and get insurance. I was in a situation where I quit a few jobs in order to keep my Medicaid. It was advise from social workers. My point is I went through a situation with Walgreens where they couldn't find me in their systems and told me despite how polite I remained, to try another pharmacy to see if the problem persists.
Either way I have also worked as a CNA and the pay is not to the level one would think. It's not the client's fault. I never would tell them that. I enjoyed speaking with clients and hearing how their day went. My worst fear was remembering what they had told me the day before. It turns out I got to know people and would have conversations with them. The pay was okay for me and the bill stunk for the clients.
