ANYONE OUT THERE COINFECTED?

Would love to talk to anyone out there who is coinfected with HIV/HCV to see if how you have responded to tx.  How bad is the tx sx on a person?  Is there anyone interested in sharing I would really aprreciate it.   :)  FYI: TX- treatment   SX- side effects

Hi Ameriboi, and welcome to the forums.

I've moved your thread into the Living forum, where you'll get more responses than in Clinical Trials where you originally posted.

Success of hep C treatment has a lot to do with what genotype you have. I had genotype 3a, which is one of the more easily treated ones and I was successfully treated over 52 weeks in 2002-03. My hep C viral load went undetectable by week ten and has remained undetectable ever since (touch wood!). It's not an easy treatment by any means, but even unsuccessful treatment will help your liver so it is often worth going through - even if it makes you miserable.

There are other coinfected members here and I'm sure a few will chime in. You can also find a lot of good information on coinfection at hivandhepatitis.com

If you check out the Welcome thread near the top of this forum, you will find links to other parts of this website. In the Lessons you will find a section on  Hep C - it's under the Opportunistic Infections heading.

If you have any more specific questions for me, I'd be happy to answer.

ok co infected sence 1989 treatment went well for me as for some of my friends not so good.. The last 3 months are the worst i think. body fat changes were sucky but for me it was worth it.. now im back where i belong and i plan on staying here for as long as i can. I waited till 95 to get treatment for hvc. thank god it got better as i waited....

Y Me? NH...You said that you were coinfected since '89?  Went well for you?  Did you clear the virus?  What type did you have? A,B,C?  What genotype?  When you say body fat changes were sucky for you, but it was worth it....what happened?  You got treated again in 95?  I will be starting treatment and unfortunately I cannot take off work for the entire time of 48 months, but I am planning to take a month off of work so that I can try and get use to this.  Anything that you wished you had done differently during treatment?  I am going to go on Pegasys and Copegasys....I would truly appreciate your insite into this....thank you for responding......

I have HIV/HepB co-infection. It is difficult finding any information on this subject whatsoever. Try finding an infectious disease DR that deals with both, or a Hepatologist or a GI doc that will deal with both. Seems darned near impossible. The infectious disease doc seems more interested in the HIV. I am interested in both (it is, afterall, my and my body). SO......we'll see. ANY information or help would be greatly appreciated.
