Dennis,
I'm glad your kidneys are stable. I don't understand though, your creatinine is a high normal & you have low kidney function. Mine is 1.7, abnormal, & they say I don't have to worry, my kidney function is roughly 90%.

Your blood pressure is much better than mine 135/90 on prescription stimulants. If it goes any higher, I'm going to have to cut down on my stimulants. The doc says high blood pressure first, and high cholesterol second, are the worst enemies of the kidneys.
I hope that you stay healthy & keep your spirits up. Hugs, Deiby

I dunno why that is :-[  however my kidney problems started way back in 98/99, and remember I've been on Meds non-stop every since June of 87, my 1st med was  AZT
this may or may not be the problem....no body really knows for sure, it's still being studied  ;)

Hi Dennis, Good to see that it does not have to be all change on the drug front , are your lipids always high and am I right in thinking you have problems with statins?

Good question, just this morning I ask my ID-doc this and she says it's all of the dam AVrs you've been on thur the yrs. and she didn't think it had anything to do with me as whole ( none of my past docs) didn't think it was me ,but the AVR's that cause such high lipids, I'm not alone in this realm  :-[

Have you considered adding a statin?  My numbers were absolutely horrible until I started on pravastatin, modified my diet and ramped up the exercise regiment.  I'll let you now if it's temporary or not after my next tests since we stopped this drug to see where the numbers are.

Overall, great results.

OH, perhaps you should try some white zin.  Maybe that's the key mixture in the puzzle.

Bob likes that, but, to be honest, were really not that much of drinkers, maybe 1 or 2 beers, and for me 1 or 2 well drinks, I have to be very careful , my AVRs makes well-drinks twice as strong , then it makes me feel SICK :D

If you are going to drink, do it right. 8)

It should be a nice Merlot, if you go in for wine, or, a nice scotch on the rocks, or with a spash of water or soda, if it is a blend.

I am with you, though. It doesn't take all that much to get me loaded. Wolfie can attest that just a few lavender martinis and three or four scotches and I was a happy camper! :o ;D

Bailey Irish Cream w/ my coffee and I'll be a happy camper @ least for the night  ;)

Dennis who actually thinks that Irish Cream go's down smooth, and there's nothing in the world like being a wide awake drunk  :P

Must disagree, Johny Walker black Label and my favourite winter drink Whisky Mac-----one part whisky one part Stones Green ginger Wine mixed and gently warmed .

Malt whisky plus a jug off good water perfect replacement for red wine with winter food.

what is Zin?

Zin is short for Zinfandel, and is a white wine, well, rather rose' ish. It is quite sweet and very gay. I liked it in my youth before my tastebuds had matured. ::)

Jim Beam on the rocks is redneck. Basil Hayden or Prichard's Double Barrel would definitely not be -- in fact one would argue that a $65 bottle of whiskey should not be bastardized with vermouth and bitters (though, I too, love a Manhattan).

Upscale whiskey bars are very chic where I live.

I am fond of single malt scotch. I also like bourbon, on occasion.

Gin can be fun, but only once in a while, and usually as a martini.

I once drank a lot of vodka, but now not so much. I don't like tequila, unless it is mixed as in a margarhita.

I have had absinthe once. It was OK, but not something I would want to make a habit of.

I will try just about any drink at least once, though.  :D

That is how we got got started on lavender martinis in Seattle.

Dennis, you would get on well with Jan, who usually drinks Baileys and something.

Seattle was the exception, but that is a tale for another day.

Odd. I thought I remembered ramming shots of tequila down your throat in La Zona Rosa. At least before you disappeared with that stripper.

The total shock and horror.  White zin is a gay drink?  No wonder my brothers don't like when I order it when I'm out with them.   ;)  I prefer Sutter Home White Zin, it is dryer and not as sweet.  I really gay it up as a spritzer with cranberry juice.  That way I can half twice as many with only half the alcohol.

Basil Hayden.  Mmmmmmm.   I envision pouring myself a glass this weekend when it is nice and cool and rainy.

I would never use Basil in a Manhattan.  I love a Manhattan, too.  My Dad used to make them, but only at Christmas time.  However, in Seattle last August, I enjoyed several.

I do enjoy bitters.  Bitters and soda, anyone?   Campari?

Cheers!

Yes, that's true. We did a number of shots of tequila.

I usually don't do shooters of tequila, but somehow the warm summer night in Mexico City, the extraordinary company I was keeping (that's you and the others Miss P.) and finding that staircase in the men's room really just set the stage and it seemed the thing to do.

I have fond memories of that stripper.  8)

I have made many cultural mistakes while living on Orkney, one off them was ordering a Campari/soda in the local.  The silence still haunts me.

Sadly my bod cannot take much alcohol now. Any Red wine is out , Good dry sparkling O.K. , G whisky/malts O.K. Ale out , Strong Larger in , cheap weak stuff out. Gin , Rum, out. Known vodka in.

Apart from the high price tag anyone see a pattern ?

And Dennis do you not suffer from statin bone/ muscle ache?

Its 12.50 lunch and I would love one very cold glass off champagne NOW.

Dennis,
You mentioned that you're on Tricor. Tricor can contribute to kidney problems. Several years ago I was on a regimen that included Viread (in Truvada) and Tricor for my high triglycerides. My kidney function was gradually declining. The reference range at my lab for serum creatinine was 0.7 - 1.25 mg/dL. Mine got to be around 1.6.

I went to a nephrologist (kidney specialist). First he took me off the Viread, which helped a bit, but not enough. Then he took me off Tricor, and shortly after that, my kidney function returned to a somewhat high, but "normal" level. As of three weeks ago, my creatinine was 1.17 mg/dL.

Allan
