As you were told in the old forums, getting a blowjob is not a risk for hiv infection, no matter what sort of spin you want to put on it. Saliva has many properties that render hiv useless and unable to infect, so this scenario of possible left-over semen isn't a risk either.

A) You received fellatio. You did not give it. Please do not try to use a discussion regarding giving fellatio to justify your fears in receiving it.

B) Assuming you read the WELCOME thread here, and the lessons for HIv transmission. If we disagreed with that science, we would either say so on theswe forums, or we would not be here. But Tim Horn gathered that information from first-tiered peer-reviewed scientific data. It's even a little conservative regarding oral sex.

C) Bringing thebody.com "evidence" here is like bringing your own knife to surgery.

You have several different people with different levels of scientific expertise often handing out contradictory advice.

Forget Sowadowsky's credentials for a moment (he has a Masters in Science in Public Health). He does not quantify his assertions regarding receptive (not insertive, the sex YOU had) fellatio except to say that there are patient reports, and that he had friends who swore, etc etc.

That's science? Sowadsky himself admitted that the "cases reported" were ALL based on patient reports, including his friends who he "personally knew" became infected that way.

How did he know? Did he follow them for years? Did he interview their partners? Did he match serotupes within the first weeks of infection to the likely culprits?

Or did he take them at their word?

If the number of people who CLAIM to have been infected via giving fellatio were anywhere NEAR accurate, there would be SOME reflection of that in the serodiscordant study. To date, one thing the serodiscordant studies are illustrating is the fallacy of patient report after the fact, especially regarding sensitive issues such as HIV and AIDS, and the stigma that exists surrounding anal sex (especially receptive anal sex in males).

I said it before and I will say it again, the plural of anecdote is not data. The three serodiscordant studies have been the BEST put together studies ever done regarding HIV tranmission. And to date, none of those studies have managed to document a single case of oral transmission in over eighteen cumulative years of work with couples of every variety (including male-male, female-female, male female, with varying dental health and varying viral loads). I amnot saying it is impossible. But the data has yet to quantify it. THAT, to me, is the VERY DEFINITION of "theoretical risk."

Good question. Nothing. You had insertive fellatio. Someone gave you oral sex. There's not a risk for HIV in that, not even on thebody.com. Not even with the spins and the hoots and bells and whistles you try and place on it.

If you can't accept that from this site, which is based on first-tiered peer reviewed science, then I can only surmise that science does not give you what you seem to need, which is fear. By all means, go back to thebody.com if that is the case. There's enough conflicting advice (very little of it footnoted, I notice) to keep you entertained for the three months ... or is it six..... or a year? I am in agreement with you that saliva from insertive oral sex is not at risk, since saliva doesn't trasmit the virus.
But semen does, and if the guy standing next to me who also got oral sex from the girl put precum in her mouth, wouldn't I be at risk from that?

No, for the same reasons that mutual masturbation using semen as a lubricant (such as it is) is not considered a risk.

HIV cannot withstand the environment of the mouth for any length of time. Not only does saliva contain enzymes which inactivate the virus, saliva literally explodes red blood cells entirely.

Seriously, no risk.

I've read if you have an STD it increases your change of contracting hiv.   does that only go for std's that give you open sores? or does it also go for warts?

It doesn't when it pertains to oral sex. You can however get an STD from oral sex. HIV is not a risk in the situation that you have explained.
