Well, my last dilation was on the 14th of April and things had been going along just fine ... in fact better than fine. I really had no problems eating. Within the past month I've noticed that when I eat too quickly food was starting to get stuck again ... but nothing severe. I would just drink a big glass of water and could flush it down. When it's really closed water won't help -- still the doctor wants to go in and scope before it gets really bad again so I'm off today for another dilation.

We dont want your Christmas dinner stuck in your craw!!!
Good luck Andy.

finally after 6 wks I got this clinic to finally make me a referral to a GI doc for next tues. (this move to SC such hasn't been as good on me physician/health care-wise as I had hoped. dang it) my throat has gotten much worse in just this last month, and nearly every freaking thing I eat causes problems. It's gotten to the point I'm barfing up meds and food cause nearly everytime I eat something is getting "stuck". I would have never dreamed the thrush from a decade ago would have had such long term effects. I can't wait to get this handled.
but, on the other hand, I'm glad to hear that you're getting your issue handled. ;)

I hope the tests help find out exactly what is wrong. I know it is quite scarry when one has difficulty swallowing. It sometimes gives you a anxious feeling.
Thinking of you and sending positive energy your way .

so? how did everything go? Feeling better? ??? Inquiring minds want to know. ;)
and now I really want to know because I've finally got the scope and dilation scheduled for 1/14. As soon as I started describing the problem to this GI doc that my HIV clinic referred me to, he knew exactly what I meant. ;) We talked about it a few minutes, and he said he could fix that right up for me. Boy! that was great to hear. He bumped someone else to get me scheduled in sooner; but can't do it any sooner than that because of a conference he's going to. So I've still got to watch what I eat - and eat a lot of soft stuff - but at least a solution is coming soon.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts & concern.
Things went smoothly and I was easily dilated backup to the normal width of 60 french!!!! I was able to eat my Christmas dinner quite nicely with no problems ... other than a being a little tender. Hopefully, I won't have to go back for a LONG LONG time ... and it was sort of nice in a twisted way to see all the staff at the hospital and wish them all happy holidays! :D
You know you spend too much time at a hospital when nurses & techs who aren't even working on you that day stop by just to say hello!

Good going Andy. Now, any New Year resolutions?
Thanks!
Yes, actually I do have one (beside the usual going to the gym more often that I make every year) ;) I seem to have developed another case of SIBO so the Dr gave me a prescription for Xifaxan and once I've finished that I'm going to try really hard to stick with my low-residue diet that I'm supposed to be on for my gastroparesis.
Happy New Year!

Thanks Theyer -- so far so good. Just waiting for my new 2010 insurance card so I can fill the Xifaxan Rx.
