Drug To Block Protein In Flu, Possibly HIV??

I saw this on MSNBC today.  The interview is about research on a drug that would block a key protein in the flu.  At the very end of the interview, they mention this could, stress could, work on HIV.  Has anyone heard of this?

It opens up a link where you can click on "play lo" or "play hi" and plays using Windows Media Player--at least on my computer.  Leatherman's link opens up a window where a video should be, but it won't play for me.  I guess MSNBC doesn't want us to view it...lol.  I'm not sure why they posted a video that uses Media Player when the rest of their videos always just play from their site.

I read a news report back in 2008 about a flu vaccine research which discussed the possible benefits to HIV.
As I understand both viruses are similar in the way they are constantly  "mutating"

 From the BBC
                     "A universal flu vaccine which could mean an end to the annual jab is being tested on UK volunteers.

It targets a different part of the virus to current vaccines, which means it does not have to be altered every year to match circulating strains.
     But she added the research team had five to 10 years of further tests ahead of them.
However, it is hoped a similar approach might eventually also be used to combat HIV, TB, malaria and even cancer. "
