Performed oral 6 days ago... Freaked
« on: August 19, 2014, 09:38:53 pm »
Hey, I performed oral on a questionable male 6 days ago , I almost emediately had swolen glands. Next day sore throat and every day since various flu like symptoms, aches, headache, I did notice a sore under my tongue, not sure if that happened during or after. I tested neg 4 days after just to rule out previous exposure, now I have to wait weeks for another test. My questions include 1 - do you feel I'm pos? I am confused to why all oral is disregarded even though people have all the symptoms? And is there really that small of a chance? Also I felt the symptoms immediately after , I may have caught a virus at the same time frame!? A co worker had similar symptoms the same time
Thanks
Confused & scared

The risk of oral transmission of HIV is from giving oral to a man who has a high HIV viral load while you suffer significant open wounds in your mouth . Oral transmission is so rare its only been documented a few times in over 30 years . You did not have a risk for HIV in this instance so if you do decide to to test do so for peace of mind only . Your symptoms have nothing to do with HIV so if you are sick go see your doctor and find out why . We do not discuss symptoms .

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI.Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

Although you did not have a risk and do not need to test for this specific incident , anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv. Some of the other STIs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

Thank you very much for your response, I am ver relieved by this! In your opinion do you think I'm ok to receive oral with my neg partner? And do you think I require another test with the info I've given? I must say that this forum is a very important tool for people who are scared and confused about this virus! You folks should be commended . I will always be grateful for your help! Neg or pos I will continue to read your forums for knowledge and support
Thank you again

Thanks again for your replies. Through much reading on these forums it's become apparent that stress over the unknown can cause much of the unese ( symptoms).
I have calmed down some and I keep re-reading your response. You really do feel I'm going to test negative. ? If I need to test at all? If I do decide to retest should I wait 3 months? Or can I go sooner? Thank you again for all your help. You have helped immensely
John

The average time to seroconversion is 22 days. Most who are infected will test positive by 6 weeks. For various reasons a small number will take longer and that is why we follow the CDC recommendation to test at 3 months for a conclusive negative result.

Have you ever heard if seroconversion taking place immediately? Do you really feel with my story details I can move on with my life confidently?

John, did you have open sores in your mouth when you gave the guy the blow job?  I am wondering, because as Jeff said above, the person performing the oral sex would have to have open wounds in his/her mouth, and the person receiving would have to have a high viral load.

If you did not have open sores in your mouth then I fully expect you to test negative.  If you want to re-test, then you do so again at 3 months after your last test, for final confirmation.

If you're still having flu-like symptoms, and still have a sore under your tongue, then I would recommend seeing your doctor to find out if something else is going on.

By the way, other STI's such as gonorrhea and chlamydia are transmitted easier via oral than HIV.

The bottom line ... All sexually active people should be testing for HIV and all stds so if you are uneasy simply go test . We have provided you the correct information and there really is nothing more to add to this assessment .

I just got back all negatives on a 10 panel std test, including hiv. This was 10 days out from the encounter. Can I relax a bit more?
