anal ulcers

I had a hemeriodectomy about a year ago and the one that was closest to the opening never completely healed and now has turned into a small ulcer. My colo/rectal specialist has been treating it with silver nitrate treatments with little success. The next step is out patient surgery which involves biopsy and cauterization. Doesn't sound to pleasant to me especially after induring the burning of the silver nitrate. Has anyone experienced this or have any advice for me. Your thoughts and comments would be appreciate.

Do not take bimazek's advice without consulting a doctor first. Many beaches are teeming with pollutants and bacteria that just might be detrimental to a ulcer. Be careful of folks diagnosing over the internet.

oh my. The ocean is filled with microorganisms (live little critters) as well as raw sewage (where do you think boats and cruise ships dump their human waste?)
Being an avid scuba diver, I have been advised to shower immediately after getting out of the water with antibacterial soap. If you don't, you will start smelling of "decay" of the little creatures you were swimming in.

I certainly agree with Doxie about consulting with your doctor.

I can only sympatyse with you as I have been having problems "down there" for years.
I have had surgery on the 20th Feb to remove anal warts and a fissure and after 2 months Iam doing worse than when I started.
Apparently now I have developed a stenosis, which is an obstruction in the canal. That means that it is extremely difficult going to the toilet and normally can only go by doing enemas.
The 3rd doc I have seen is suggesting starting using dilators to open up the canal...

The only advice I have for you is to do sitz baths with salted water; they always seemed to help me. Also if the area gets infected easily ask your doc if he reckons a course of antibiotics is reccommended.

I know very well of how troublesome these kind of problems are.

Ah, some proper advice. Yes, salt water is good for things like this, but it's not a good idea to avail yourself of the ocean to bathe the area in salt water, as another poster recommended.

Years ago I had a major problem with a primary herpes outbreak and I had to soak the area in mildly salted water after using the toilet. It may help you to do the same, even though you're not dealing with herpes. You'll have to find a basin that will fit your bottom (or fill the tub each time) and have a brief soak a few times a day. Make sure you pat yourself thoroughly dry each time - a hair dryer can be useful here. Of course, discuss this course of action with your doctor before trying it. Epsom salts are a good product for doing this, if your doctor agrees. Chances are it won't hurt but rather will help - at least some.

Good luck, this is an uncomfortable/painful, embarrassing thing to have to be dealing with and you have my empathy.
