Title: Positive partner - test conclusive?
Post by: paulknight123 on July 28, 2017, 08:21:44 am
I've been on prep for 5 months and over the last 2 months have entered into a monogamous relationship with a hiv positive guy who has been undetectable for 9 years (at least he says he is).

Did not use condoms as assumed I was double protected from the prep and the fact he's undetectable.

Over the last week I've come down with a flu and my psoriasis which was contained to just a tiny part of my body has exploded all over my body. I know these are signs of acute infection.

I dragged myself out of bed and got a hiv test yesterday. However the lady said due to funding the tests were older ones that only detect 12 weeks ago. It came up negative.

Can I be reassured I'm negative? I assume if I had sero converted my symptoms would mean my viral load would be high so can I assume I'd show up as positive in ANY hiv test? Or would the prep affect the test?

Thanks greatly

Hi, If everything you have posted is true, it is very unlikely you were infected.
Your symptoms are not HIV related and we do not discuss them.

It doesn't sound like you are in a trusting relationship and you should be using condoms till you are. A negative result is always encouraging, but a result is not conclusive till 13 weeks.  As I stated if everything you stated is true you can expect a negative result
