Risk?
« on: July 18, 2006, 09:21:44 am »
Hi all,

First of all, I have to say you are doing an exellent job here. I've been reading this forum for last few months I it helped me a lot. I'm still anxious so I have few questions about my risk and test results and I would be extremly thankful if you could give me the anwsers.

My story is simple. Seven months ago I had sex with a sexworker. I was protected so i shouldn't be worry, but after two days a big, painful ulcer has occured in my groin and it made me scared. Could you tell me what was my risk?

Second thing is my health situation. 3 weeks after this incident I started to heve flu-like symptoms: fever, rash, night sweats (all ended after few weeks). Now,  only thing that makes me worry is diarrhoea that lasts for last 3 months. Could it be the symptom of HIV?

I've done several tests for HIV -  Elisa Duo.
After 18 days - negative
After 10 weeks - negative
After 4 and 5 months - both negative
After 6 months (180 days) negative
I also tested for syphilis and HVc an HVb and it all came back negative.
Is it any possibility my test results are not accurate and I'm the case of delayed seroconversion?

Thanks for any reply

Jay

PS. Sorry about my English.

You are conclusively negative from a situation which did NOT have a risk for HIV.

As for your groin ulcer, only your Dr can diagnose what that is, but it has nothing to do with HIV.  Same for any other symptom you have.

Your HIV fears can be ended by you accepting the fact that you are negative and moving on.  Even if it means you stay away from the site and stop yourself from fixating on HIV.

If you weren't an IV drug user, and you didn't have an organ transplant or chemotherapy you shouldn't worry.....besides you tested at 6 months, which is already double the accepted timeline of 13 weeks.

Jay, condoms provide very effective protection. You don't have any basis in HIV science to be concerned about HIV in relation to this incident. I wouldn't have considered testing to be necessary. You have a completely reliable negative result at way beyond the 13 weeks which the CDC recommends for testing.

Your ulcer could have been caused by many things. It's something for you to discuss with your doctor as well as any other symptoms which may concern you. Just because you have physical things going on doesn't mean your HIV test result was not valid.

Get yourself to your doctor and discuss whatever is going on. It's not HIV. Period.

Cheers,

Sae, Andy

Thank you very much for your reply. It's amazing how fast help can come.

My worries about the possible transmission were caused by a thought: what if this ulcer has occured from a contact of vaginal fluids with a cut or a sore in my groin. Does this situation still have no risk?

Second thing. I've read that after aproximate period (13 weeks) no further testing is needed except the cases where negative result doesen't refer to the clinic history. I would like to know what circumstances can make another test needed?

Thanks for any reply

I still don't see any cause for concern in terms of the ulcer and HIV.

THe CDC recommends testing up to 6 months in situations where the person is an IV drug user or has a severely depleted immunse system due to treatment for cancer for instance. Otherwise 13 weeks is sufficient.

Sae, Andy, All,

Thanx for your replies.
I have had to re-think everything you wrote, and because I still have problem with accepting the reliability of my results without any doubts, I decided to talk to the psychiatrist about it. Before I gonna start the therapy I have last (I hope) one question. And here it comes: Can I be absolutely sure and certain about my negative status from the results I've got no matter what my symptoms are?

Thanx for any anwsers.

Jay,

Symptoms or the lack of symptoms mean absolutely NOTHING when it comes to hiv infection.

You have conclusively tested negative for hiv, regardless of symptoms you may be having.

Last quick question. Is it possible for drugs used in therapy of asthma to delay seroconversion?

All

I didn't thanx to you last time you helped me, because i didn't want to get used to post this page. Now I can say: thank you very much. I sill  have some concerns about my status so I would be very glad if you could anwser my questions.

After my last post i went to see a MD who is specialist in viral infections. She said it that my tests proved I'm negative, but she has also discovered some swollen lymph nodes under my arm pits and a some cold sore. Panic has started so I took one more test, 7 months post exposure. It was negative. My throat is cold and my nodes has remain to swollen for 3 months and now, without any couse disapired.

My questins are: If i ve beed infected Is it possible that my nodes were swollen for a month and no antibodies were produced through that time. If no: Should I have any doubt about my status regard to my 7month test vs my symptoms?

thanx for any anwser

Jay, you are HIV negative. Period. End of story.

If you are experiencing swollen nodes or anything else of concern that's something to sort out with your doctor. Those and any other "symptoms" to come do not invalidate the reliability of your negative HIV test. No kidding.

So no matter what else your mind may come up with you are still HIV negative. Really.

Thanx for your replies and I'm sorry I bother you again.
There is one more thing I would appreciate if you could anwser.
All over the net I've read numerous times about the cases of delayed seroconversion, immunosilent infections or other things that could give false negatives. The q is: Does it really happen in the XXI century or this is just a history of medicine???
I've got a lot of symptoms that my MD treat as an usual stuff and I've never been healthy, but I still wonder that if I was in a risk maybe I should still have a doubt.
yours, jay

Jay, no matter what doubts and "one more thing" your mind may continue to come up with, you are still HIV negative. Period.

If you continue to have physical problems that's somethng to sort out with your doctors. You've mentioned that you are going to or are seeing a psychiatrist. That's the place for you to sort out the emotional aspects of this  situation.

Just because you still have doubts and worries doesn't and won't change the facts that you have repeatedly and reliably tested negative for the HIV virus.

Whatever your problem is it has nothing to do with HIV. We've done whatever we can do for you here.

Thanx Andy for responding. I hope you didn't find me annoing.
I know I've been told several times that I'm negative. And I realy know that my tests say the same thing either. But for me the HIV status is something  I have to be absolutely sure. It's a matter being honest. With myself and people who I live with. So forgive me if this is that one step too far on this forum.

I'm sorry for bothering you (I realy am), but I'm asking you, if you could once again evaluate my risk. And if basing on sciense knowledge you think there is anything that puts my status in a doubt, please let me know.

thanx
jay

PS. Andy, I've met with the psychiatrist and he said that he can't help me by therapy and the only thing he can do is just giving me some meds.

Jay,

We've repeatedly told you that you had no risk. Protected intercourse is just that, protected against hiv transmission. No risk.

You have also repeatedly and reliably tested negative over a NO RISK situation. Buddy, you couldn't get more hiv negative.

There is more than one counselor/therapist in the world. Keep looking until you find one who is willing to work with you with your issues, instead of just trying to hand you meds that may or may not work.

There is nothing more we can do for you here. Re-read your thread if it helps, but there's no point in asking the same questions over and over again - the answers will not change.

Hi there, It's been a while from my last post. I was panic then and I don't want to start it again.
A week ago I had sex with a two pros. Both vaginal and oral. Both protected. As far as I remember nothing happened to the condom - it didn't slip or brake. As I was told here and other places protected means safe, but after this week I got mycosis on my penis. So my question is, if the mycosis on the penis should be consider as a sign that something went wrong with a condom (I am quite sure that not)? Should I be worry or I am safe? Please help.

great. thanks. The only reason I've asked you is because, the mycosis that appeared made me thinking if it is possible I've caught it in the situation I described. So how was it possible if I was protected or maybe it puts my protection in doubt. Any comments on that?

Jay,

I've merged your new thread into your original thread - where you should post all your additional thoughts or questions. It helps us to help you when you keep all your additional thoughts or questions in one thread. It doesn't matter how old your original thread is - despite the old post warning the forum software throws up.

If you need help finding your thread when you come here, click on the "Show own posts" link under your name in the left-hand column of any forum page.

Please also read through the Welcome Thread so you can familiarize yourself with our Forum Posting Guidelines. Thank you for your cooperation.

As you yourself noted, you were told the first time you were here that protected intercourse is just that - protected.

Mycosis is a fungal infection and you didn't necessarily get it from having sex. Every person alive on the planet has fungus on their skin and you're no different. Sometimes that fungus can multiply to the point where it's a problem. It happens.

You didn't have a risk for hiv infection. Keep using those condoms and you will remain hiv negative.

Hi there again,
i don't know how many times one person can make a mistakes over one issue, but here it comes. 8 weeks ago I  had a protected intercourse with a pro. Nothing risky so far, but yesterday I recalled one thing - we took cocaine together. It was only one line for each and there was no blood on the note as far as i remember, but should i be worried? Second thing i want to ask you is a test. I am 8 weeks after. What accuracy would have the Combo test, if it was needed?
I would very grateful for any answer.
Thanks
Filip

Jay,

Once again, you're worrying for no good reason. Protected intercourse is just that - protected. Snorting drugs with someone is not a risk for hiv infection.

I'm starting to think it's time you went to a counselor who could help you with this obsession concerning hiv. We cannot help you with that here.

Hello.
It's been a while, but again - I was stupid and I've made a stupid mistake. I've visited a massage parlour. I recived a rough unprotected oral sex from a pro. I also fingered her and while she was lying on me she has done some frottage on me. So my questions are: If there is any chance of contacting HIV or any other STD (I know you are not the experts on other STD then HIV, but maybe you have some knowledge) in described situations. I fear comes from few reasons: It was a really deep oral, the girl had some broken teeth, I've got many cuts on my hands (i work with them) and today I've noticed that the head of my penis is hurt, like she bite me. SO my question are - if those circumstances puts my safe in any doubt (really any)? Do I have to test over this incident? And can I have unprotected sex with my girlfriend like i use to? I love her so much, I've made a stupid mistake and I don't to hurt her anyhow.
Please, let me know.
Best
J.

Three things to add. We didn't have any kind of intercourse (neither anal nor vaginal - except the frottage) The cuts on my hand were fresh (from the same day) - so fresh they started to bleed in a morning once more time. I don't recall if the frottage was done before or after she could bite head of my penis.

   Anyone who continues to post excessively, questioning a conclusive negative result or no-risk situation, will be subject to a four week Time Out (a temporary ban from the Forums). If you continue to post excessively after one Time Out, you may be given a second Time Out which will last eight weeks. There is no third Time Out - it is a permanent ban. The purpose of a Time Out is to encourage you to seek the face-to-face help we cannot provide on this forum.

You have been coming here long enough to know that your latest incident was not something that put you at risk. No matter what details you throw into the mix of rubbing, frottage, masturbation and getting oral, you were not at risk.

As you have been told before, the only confirmed risks for HIV transmission are actual vaginal and anal intercourse. Period.

You need to apply the information that has been given to you when you have sex so that you are not coming here as if you hadn't heard a word about any of it previously.

Thank for this time out. It was really helpful. I've started my therapy as it has suggested. I didn't have any hiv concerns since then, but it occurred that probably I've got syphilis out from the experience I've mentioned month ago. And it made me thinking once again. So I have just three simple questions and I would be very grateful if you could answer them without banning me from this forum in the same time. So here they come. First: Does contacting syphilis changes anything in "no risk" standard for receptive oral sex?
Second: Does a rash (red dots and some red patches) on my calves is alarming in any way or typical for hiv?
And the last one: Has kissing of any kind (including all the blood in the saliva, open cuts in the mouth that a sick mind can come up with) ever been a source of hiv infection?

Thanks
Cheers
Jay.
