Blips
« on: July 28, 2011, 12:04:07 pm »
Hi there,

I have a question about blips. I know there if you get one its not an indication that your treatment is failing but i just want to know why they happen? Is there anything you can do to stop them?

I have been undetectible for 8months and have never missed a single dose since starting treating. However I saw the doctor yesterday to get my blood results and the viral load was 51 instead of undetectible. Im not really worried about it as I know blips are just random and sometimes happen. Often because of how the blood is tested and because of clinical errors and factors like that.

But I was wondering if there was anything I was doing to have caused a blip? I take an isentress tablet in the morning at 9am everyday. Sometimes Im still on the commuter train going to work at 9am so sometimes just swallow the tablet whole without water or anything. And sometimes I take it in the morning with coffee. Could not taking it with water or taking medication with hot drinks have any effect on the amount of medication that is absorbed or anything?

Im just thinking of ways to avoid any future blips. Or is that not even possible?

Mark

This is not a blip. Viral load tests easily return results up to 3 times higher than the real figure, this is the test's margin of error. A blip would be 150-250+

I've been taking my morning meds with my 10 cups of coffee for 20 years.   :)

There's not a lot you can do to avoid random variation....

Its really very frustrating to have one of these blips, but even if it repeats the current medical opinion seems to be that everything is fine if the levels are that low.
