interesting article.

as a member of the SC HIV Task Force, I was recently contacted by someone researching this topic here in SC, so I spoke to some of our members who work with the HIV+ prisoners. The segregation in our prison system has always been based on economics according to the state. It is said that it is more economical to keep these prisoners together in an area with medical facilities, and that it makes distribution of daily medications and adherence compliance better controlled and monitored.

more info about the situation in SC can be read here: http://www.hrw.org/news/2010/08/06/south-carolina-end-segregation-hiv-infected-prisoners

Talk about inhumane..."You have HIV, now sit alone in this room with no windows for a month, have a nice day"...I cannot imagine the mental anguish this causes...that is truly cruel and unusual.

Fuck me bits of Anerica are so backward it's scary. As if bring told you have hiv isn't bad enough you have a month in solitary, have to wear an arm band, be treated like your mere touch will kill and can't attend education programmes or be allowed other prisoners.
