Today I got the results of the biopsy.

It is skincancer, lentigo maligne melanoma.

The good news is they have removed the tumor completely.
The bad news is I will need more surgery to have a piece of skin removed from my leg and sewed onto my back to restore the 2.5 inch circle of open flesh , left by the removed tumor...

Oh well... I will survive, after my two tumors in my rectum last year....

Glad to hear they removed the tumour Hermie..good news indeed.

The skin graft will be fine just a wee bit of discomfort until it heals.

WOW, Hermie. This is great news.

When you mention melanoma to Australians it sends a shiver down our collective spines. It is the most aggressive form of skin cancer and kills about 1 500 Australians each year. We have the highest rates in the world and we've all got a horror story of friends/relatives that have been diagnosed one day and dead within a few months.

I was very worried when you mentioned it, but am now so relieved that they have found it early and appear to have removed it all.

Glad to hear that the doctors got it all !! That 2.5 inch circle, on your back, should start healing up pretty fast. Make sure to keep it clean. Also, make sure to get yourself more frequent checkups. Like I was mentioning in another thread, I see my dermatologist, almost as often as my ID doctor.

I had an appointment with the dermatologist today at my HIV clinic.
My HIV doc told me I gave her a huge scare when I told her about the diagnosis.
She lost 3 HIv pos men last year... from melanoma.
Apparently I was lucky the cancer had not spread into my bloodstream.
Well, I am not going to worry about the IF's.

The doc said the healing is proceeding well. I need to have the ointment put on every day and have the bandage changed daily as well by a nurse for the next three weeks.
If everything goes well, I will NOT need a skintransplant... yeah......

It still hurts of course, but it is bearable.

So far so good....
But to all of you : keep a close eye on whatever spot on your body that is changing in shape, appearance, color or thickness... it can be deadly.

I go in for a biopsy on Monday. Two spots have appeared on my body, one on my left shin, the other on my temple.

Glad to hear all this Hermie.

It's sounds like you've gotten over the worst of it, but the would itself can be very troubling. Make sure you get that wound cleaned and changed everyday. I was in the hospital with PCP for 3 weeks. Ended up getting a bed sore on my butt and that's what almost killed me. It was infected and had the infection spread into my blood I would have been a goner. It took a good 6 weeks of constant cleaning and attending to by a home nurse to fix it.
