Dear Everyone:

We thank all of you who have donated for your continued support of the Grants Committee.  The response this year has so far been nothing short of remarkable.  We have been quite busy communicating with a number of folks who have requested assistance.  We are on track to be able to assist more than we've had in the past AMGs with the donations we have received to date.  This will be reflected in the next and subsequent bank statements as we start the process of distributing funds.  As we have anticipated, there are more requests coming in for assistance as the gathering date nears in excess of the available donations.  Thus, we are continuing to accept donations on behalf of those still needing assistance.  We hope to be able to raise another $600.  Any amount would help.  We are set up to receive donations through checks, PayPal, and electronic bank transfers (Bank of America).  We'd gladly provide the details through PM.

If my math is correct you guys have raised over $5,000.00!, excluding shared rooms and other non-cash gifts.

Kudos to all four of you for your hard work and dedication.

But more importantly kudos to the members of these forums who have been so supportive and given so generously.

With regard to the latest bank statement, save for $138 and whatever is collected from the T-shirt sales, the rest of the money is already committed to reimburse people for airfare they booked for grantees when they arrive in SF, as well as several others who have booked rooms in behalf of grantees.  A final accounting will be made after the AMG07 concludes.

The “Cash Donations” were funds directly sent to the Grants Committee for disbursement.  Some of these were earmarked to members specified by the donors.  Most were unrestricted and the Grants Committee performed the task of approaching members who might need assistance.  We had a record number of donors and amount of cash donations this year. 

The “Non-Cash Donations” were not directly controlled by the Grants Committee (except for the assignment of the complimentary rooms).  These additional donations helped stretch out the cash donations for disbursement that the Grants Committee received.

Twenty five members were approached this year, including several living outside the US, since February 2007 for possible assistance.  Unfortunately, not everyone could make it and among those who could, not everyone could be accommodated due to budgetary limitations.  In spite of that, the number of members assisted directly this year was more than last year’s.

The final balance may not be reflected in the bank statement until next month as checks are still being distributed to the proper recipients.

Is there some way we could make donations on a monthly basis using a PayPal account ?  As a person who recieved assistance to attended this year I feel the need to give back, even if it is in a small monthly contribution. My budget may be tight, but I can come up with a  $25.00 a month donation for AMG08.

PayPal is not a good method to donate funds anymore because they are charging the recipient of the funds a certain percent to withdraw the money from the PayPal account.

There will be an adjustment to the financial summary as we recently learned that because of the great attendance, a third complimentary room night became available (instead of just 2 nights under the "Non-cash Donations") per hotel contract.  This was used toward an attendee's stay and the grants committee will be receiving the cash equivalent of that one extra complimentary night.  The financial summary will be updated accordingly to reflect this change once the balances are settled.

I would also like to add that a small commission was negotiated with our hotel contract.  Once the hotel pays up these funds, less my expenses (cd's, etc) will be forwarded to the grants committee.

This concludes the GC 07 account activity.  The remaining balance of $210.85 (I will add back the $7 service charge) will be forwarded to the next GC.  As I will not be able to participate in the next GC due to other duties, I will forward the balance to the next group.  Thanks to all.
