Which forums do you use?
« on: December 19, 2006, 05:49:20 pm »
Me- Living with HIV followed by Off-topic.  I view Treatment Questions much less than I used to, but I generally go there a few times a week, and I hardly ever visit the other HIV related forums.

Good, timely thread!  'Off Topic' and 'Living' are my top two, followed by 'Just Tested Poz'.  I scan the others periodically for new or juicy topics.

I am generally more careful about avoiding the 'Am I Infected?' thread than I was about avoiding HIV in the first place.

Hello Cliff,

For me, It's  the "living with" Primarily, then the off topic. And I like to read the Updated news every week. But I try to go through all the forums everyday, except for the "Am I infected"  :P

I usually forget about the newly diagnosed thread.  I suppose I don't have time for freshmen, now that I am a Junior.  Once they graduate to the Living with forum, I'll speak to them....  The other HIV forums (lipo, nutrition, activism, research) don't usually get my attention....there's a bit of overlap since the living with forum seems to be all encompassing.

Hello Cliff! -First, Living With
Followied by AM Gatherings

Then if I am curious still
I move to Off Topic blatherings

Then if feeling studious
It's newly-named Research News

Most of all and overall,
I'm looking for others' views.

This links me to an info-haven
and members of this clan

It makes me ever mindful
to keep doing what I can

One of us is always new
and one is ever-sicker

One of us is feeling low
and one of us needs to bicker

But, most often I find myself
reflected in another's post

And from that I can realize
What they and I want most

To be read or to be heard
Whether well or wheelchair-bound

I'm most grateful for this site
When no one else is around

When no one's here to chat it up
Or when I need to be alone

When I feel the urge to type
rather than be on the phone

You asked a simple question
And I intended a simply reply

But I'm glad to go tangential
and have no cause to wonder why!

(Cliff: I hope you are doing well both with your health and your new work. Everything else will fall into place over time. Happy Holidays. Anne)

Mostly Living With, but I do peruse the Off T most days. I really became enthralled with Iggy's postings in Activism. His accounting of his experiences, was so well worded, and followed through. It just hasn't been the same since he left that thread lay. This guy has amazing talent, and I still stand by what I said in the thread, that GMHC missed the opportunity of a lifetime by not grabbing this guy up, and begging him to work there.

....but I digress.....mostly Living with.

Am I infected
Living
HIV research
Side effects
Treatment questions
Sometimes Activism.

I use to only stay in the Am I infected part, but recently I burned out.

I bounce between Off Topic and Living With HIV like a superball.

I do check out Just Tested Poz fairly frequently...

But my absolute favorite is AII.  It's fairly obvious that I don't post in there... but I'm one of those people who like to see how completely insane some people can get.  It's like a reality TV show in there sometimes.

Thank you so much... but I'm not modest!   ;D

I did post in AII once... with incorrect information (not so much regarding HIV as it did something about blood tests and vials and such)... and the ensuing brouhaha of questions was enough for me.

And I'm not very good at calming people.  It's not in my nature.

I mainly use the "show unread" button - after I've done what's gotta be done over in Am I. ::)

By using the "show unread" button, I never (or rarely) miss an interesting new thread.

When I first joined the AM family (all of 3 weeks ago!) I read....and read....and read all the forums.  Now as a real veteran my top 5 are:

I just tested
Living with
Treatment
Side Effects
and my all time favorite Off Topic since I am a little off myself and some of the hotties here post some interesting stuff or things that make me smile and sometimes even make me laugh out loud (thanks to all of you who do...makes me tingle all the way down to my toes...or maybe thats just the PN)

It just gives you a complete list of every thread in every forum that either is new itself, or has new posts in it since the last time you read it. It pretty much looks like any main page of any forum, only at the top it says "recent unread topics" instead of Nutrition or Off Topic or whatever. Under each thread title, it tells you what forum the thread is posted in.

"...or maybe it's just the PN" he says!  LOL.  Kevin, that's funny!

I agree with Beers, er...AUP:  The 'Am I' thread can be a not-to-be-missed thrill ride (as long as you're one of the lucky ones that can hop off at any time!), and the archived threads in there are something akin to watching last season's 'Surreal Life'.

I read the Living With religiously. (No, not on my knees silly)

The others, in the order I usually read them:

Off Topic;

Nutrition;

AMG Gatherings.

The others I read periodically, but I don't have the time any more to really spend that much going through all the threads.

I did enter the Am I? forum twice. SCARY!

I don't know which was best, the Doritos thread or the Pills manufactured in India thread.

EEEP!

Hey Cliff...

Very GOOD question indeed.

1. Living With
2. Off Topic
3. AIDS Activism
4. AM Gatherings
5. And so on...

Living With & Off topic for sure.
I always try to find what some of my favorite members have to say regardless of what forum they have posted.
Of course if I want to see how completely idiotic people can be I go to 'Am I".....for about 2 minutes

I always check Living With several times a day.  I'll check Off Topic maybe every day or so.  AM Gatherings doesn't generate a lot of activity ususally, but I check it once every few days.  I forget about I Just Tested Poz, and Am I Infected makes my head hurt, but it also opens my eyes to the seemingly infinite patience of those with HIV who participate there.  I really don't read the others much, if ever.  This is why I'm opposed to adding more forums was opposed to adding I Just Tested Poz.
