Starting to take Biktarvy
« on: September 05, 2018, 05:20:18 pm »
Hi,

So I haven't been on meds for a couple of years (been watching my numbers and still going to the doc every 4 months or so.)  My viral load is going up now and has hit 50k, my t-cells are dropping a bit, so there is a negative trend in the last year or so and my doc suggests I go back on medication.  After looking at things I've tried in the past, he suggested Biktarvy.

He said I should take it in the morning but I thought I'd come here for advice.  I do take some Magnesium at night to help me sleep - and he said you shouldn't take them together for absorption reasons.  I think it's a 2 hour window between taking them, correct?

So, I can either take it in the morning or at dinner time such as 7:30 - I usually dont go to bed till 1 or 2 am so I wouldn't take Magnesium until several hours after.  I just wondered what the pros/cons if taking a medication in the morning verses at night might be.  He also said I wouldn't feel like myself for the first couple of weeks as my body adjusts to it.  I had some side effects with other things I've tried (such as Triumeq and Tivicay in the past) so my hope is to take something that does its job that I don't feel at all.  Most of my friends are positive and on meds, and they don't have any sides or issues, so I want to get there myself.

One other thing is that I wake up at different times in the morning so I'm not sure how important taking it at an exact time each day is, verses a 2 hour or so swing.

Thanks for any input  :)

Why can't you take the medicine in the am and take Magnesium around lunch time? That way the Biktarvy is absorbed and in your system? Is this magnesium prescribed?

I don't know much about bictegravir, but whether to take it in the am or pm depends on its potential side effects

If it is known to cause sleep disturbance, take it in the am. If its known to cause fatigue, take it at night.

I don't think your varying wake up times will matter. These drugs have longer half lives and they do not have to be taken in short windows.

Why did you wait to take meds?

I really hope you give this a fair chance. It seems as if you always find an issue with any regimen you're on.
