My Numbers.

I went to the doctor and got my numbers and I am kinda depressed over the CD4.

My CD4 a month ago was 623 and now it 513, is this bad?

My viral load went from 1,360 to 590, I know that's good.

What could cause the decline is the CD4? I am scared and worried that it is going to be bad news.

Do you happen to know your percentage? That's a more stable number to go by. I'd be willing to bet that your percentage didn't go down a significant amount.

That is not considered a significant change, either your CD4 or viral load.

Hi Matt,

A drop by a 100 or even more isn't really clinically significant. It's the trend that counts.

CD4 counts fluctuate. They go up and down during the day. For example, CD4 counts are lower when you first wake up and higher later in the day. They are higher immediately after exercise – even running up and down stairs. They can also be affect by diet, whether you have other infections or even if there were just more or fewer cells in that sample of blood. None of these variations mean that your immune system is stronger or weaker.

This is why the trend of CD4 results is more important than any single count. The trend looks at the average of several results.

When you have several results you can see whether the trend is going up or down and how quickly it is changing – or whether it is generally stable.

Also, as the previous poster said, your CD4% tends to be more stable than absolute CD4 counts.

No need to worry mate. Your CD4 is pretty much the same as last time.  :)

Your CD4 (in absolute and percentage terms) is stable. Your viral load has gone down significantly.

It's a reason to be happy, I'd say.
