Hi, I'm worried about possible hiv contraction from unprotected oral sex I had exactly a week ago. I've read that the risks are very very low but I was wondering if my particular situation would put me at higher risk. So first of all I have very fair skin(I cut easily etc.). I got a long and rough handjob from someone which left my penis pretty red and sore(no blood/cuts that I noticed though). A couple hours at the most after that I went out met up with someone and ended up getting a long blowjob from them. Their oral hygiene did not seem the greatest and I it was a very intense blowjob i.e. I was thrusting a lot, holding them down and getting all the way down their throat. My penis was actually sore to the touch when I started getting the blowjob but I kept going anyway. This went on for at least 45 mins. The person who I did this with I'm sure has had many partners which worries me. I'm most worried about their not great oral hygiene with my already sore penis for that length of time which could put me at risk. Also the fact that I went so deep would make it more likely for me to get something down my urethra. In the past few days I've started to feel feverish, clammy and completely fatigued at times. Also have had a slightly sore throat. Very worried at the moment. Any informed opinions would be greatly appreciated.. thank you!

No matter what sort of details you offer, getting a blowjob is NOT a risk for HIV infection. It has NEVER been documented and you will NOT be the first.
Neither is getting a handjob.
Let me explain.
Saliva is NOT infectious. Not only that, it contains over a dozen elements that render HIV inactive (and active/infectious HIV is NOT found in saliva in the first place).
There have been THREE long term srudies of serodiscordant couples - where one partner is positive and one is negative. These studies took place over ten, five and three years. The partners who were positive had widely different medical treatments and widely varying viral loads.
And the couples met the following criteria: They used condoms for penetrative vaginal and anal sex, but NOT ONCE for any sort of oral sex.
And there were ZERO infections as a result.
There is NO WAY you will get HIV through the methods you described. You had absolutely NO RISK.

Thank you for the reply. That sounds reassuring. There seems to be a fair amount of conflicting information on certain websites which had increased my worry considerably. There are a few other questions I would have then. If you or anyone else could help me with them..
1. So the only thing about oral sex at all that carries any risk is swallowing semen from another person who was positive? Possibly ingesting any small trace amounts of blood that might be in it?
2. Is there a risk if let's say I had what would be considered an open cut or wound on myself and I got semen from a positive person directly on that cut?
3. So what's happening when people pass hiv through intercourse are small abrasion/cuts from the intercourse that cause blood to swap between the two people? But this wouldn't be the same with oral sex because the saliva inhibits the hiv that would pass between the two?
Thank you again for your time.

Can anyone please answer any of these questions for me? I want to be practicing sex as safely as possible and can't find definitive answers on the web.

1. No. And this does not apply to your situation.
2. No. This is not a mode of transmission.
3. Again, this does not apply to your situation. As you have been advised this encounter did not put you at risk for HIV.
