For those of you that don't know, a co-star of John Inman was a lady with green hair that our forum member, aztecan, has as an avatar.

I loved Mr. Humphries!
A friend of mine met John Inman and said he was a really cool guy... and that John Inman was shocked that a 25 year old American knew who he was...
That's sad.

Mr. Humphries, "you're free."
I once spent a delightful evening showing Mr. Inman and beau around Memphis. They were on a cross country tour, hawking public television stations. We ended up at a local gay watering hole...the more Inman became pissed the more Mr. Humphries came out to play. He certainly could work a crowd and a good time was had by all. He was tiny enough to fit in your pocket. May he rest in peace.

Dachshund, that's really a nice bit of info.........Thanks for sharing. Yes, may he rest in peace.......but mostly, I hope he's at a place where he can have a blast.

Oh thats so sad. I loved the show "Are You Being Served".

Years ago I loved that show....it took a while to understand some of the humor....
and a little research of the Brits
but Mr Humphries never failed to get a giggle out of me. The role was absolutely
perfect for him.....
It's sad day.......... :'(

Matty the Damned is a enormous fan of John Inman and Are You Being Served? He liked all of the characters, Especially Young Mr Grace, Captain Peacock, Mrs Slocombe and Mr Humphries.
Contrary to the opinion of some tedious "lesbigay" activists I think Mr Humphries was a great gay character and did the cause much honour.
After me everyone, "Ground floor: perfumery, stationery and leather goods . . . "
Vale John Inman.

It never occurred to me that Mr. Humphries' being gay had any special bearing on the show one way or another, the show was just freaking funny as hell. Pretty much every character contributed to make the whole more than the sum of the parts.
Although Mr Humphries was one of my favorites.

*shrug* It registered with me that he was gay but then Mrs. Slocomb's ever changing hair colored did too.
It just didn't seem to be any major big deal. The guy was just funny as hell.
Although I admit Miss. Brahms.struck me as kind of hot in a trashy girl sort of way.
I've always been that way I guess. My parents tell this story when ever I have moments like this.
1960's Chicago. Young Master Grinch getting ready for his first trip to school.
Neighbor girl: Now I have to warn you... There are going to be colored people in school.
Grinch: Really?! What color are they?.... blue?!!
Neighbor Girl: *blink*
Grinch: *Confused look*...strolls off looking at a shiny object.
Wow chemo brain is bad today, I'll shut up now.

Until the advent of the IMDb, I thought that Mrs. Slocombe was also Alex's mom from A Clockwork Orange.
-
I've never heard of the show...

God, I will miss his wit and charm! The last time I saw him live was on an Atlanta PBS fund raiser. I remember watching him on Sunday night. He was so damn funny and real "for the time". God rest his soul.
Thank you for the laughter you gave me and the rest of us who loved you. I wonder who's inseam he is measuring "up there" ?
