HIV 1/O/2 Antibody ICMA Labcorp HIV Test

Can someone tell me if the HIV 1/O/2 Antibody ICMA Labcorp  test is a newer generation test--say 3rd or 4th generation. Is this test the same as an HIV DUO test? If I were negative at 28 days, would this mean that I would very likely not have the HIV virus? I'm confused. I'm looking for a test that would give me 90%+ certainty in say 28 to 32 days. Would this test do that? How does it differ say from a straight HIV antibody test?I want to make sure I take the right test. I know that there is the Abbott Architect HIV Ag/Ab Combo Assay test. Is the HIV 1/O/2 test similar in that a negative reading at 28 days will most likely stay negative?

Yes, it's a newer test, but that does not mean it's a short-cut.

We recommend that the earliest one should test in order to be confident of continuing to test negative is at six weeks. The vast majority of people who have actually been infected will seroconvert and test positive by that time. A six week negative must be confirmed at the three month point, but is highly unlikely to change.

Unless you've been having unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse or sharing drug injecting equipment, you're likely testing unnecessarily.

Thanks, Ann! I believe I may have gotten a small amount of pre-cum on my lips when I was licking his pubes. I sucked his pre-lubed condom-covered dick as well, and he penetrated me two different times with a condom on.
He sucked my condom covered penis and also sucked my raw dick for less than a minute when I came in his mouth. We also fingered each other's hole. A couple of days after encounter, I started having pain in my back, muscle pain, itching on different parts of my body but especially around my nose and mouth, a low-grade fever, and mild exhaustion. The fever and backache left and then small white acne-like spots broke out on my lips. They did not last long--maybe a couple of hours. Then a few more came. And they too went. There was no pain with them. I did go to an STD clinic a couple of days later. She said it was not herpes but could not tell me what caused those outbreaks. And the other symptoms continued.

I told a friend of mine who is a nurse about what happened. I sent him pics I had taken. He thinks I may have been allergic to the latex or the lube that was on the pre-lubed condom. He told me to take Benadryl.  I did that on this past Sunday night. Yesterday was my best day so far.
That is why I became alarmed. Having some of the symptoms associaed with herpes or an early acute HIV infection has made me very tense.

So by taking the HIV 1/O/2 test after six weeks from the last exposure, and testing negative at that time, would be a really good indication that I will not test positive at  three months? Do you think I should see my regular PCP and get a prescription to take the Abbott Architect HIV test that was approved in June 2010? It supposedly gives definitive information about HIV status after 28 days from the last exposure. So I would know two weeks sooner if I had contracted HIV or not.  Given what I told you about the activities we engaged in, do you think they could have put me at risk for HIV?  I have learned my lesson. I will never have sex with someone unless it is in a monogamous relationship where we each know one another's STD status. For me, the risk of getting an STD outweighs any pleasure that recreational sex may give.

Under NO circumstances does the situation as you describe it even remotely constitute an HIV risk.

Hey, Rod and jk! So you think I'm worrying for nothing? This was my first sexual experience. And when the symptoms started appearing that mimicked HIV or Herpes occurred, I became very worried and tense. A person told me that I could get herpes from sucking a guy's balls, which I did a lot during that encounter. He loved it, and I obliged him. And I read where deep kissing was also a risk for HIV. We did that for a few minutes. I do know now that herpes--oral and genital --can be spread very easily. And I did engage in activity where that could happen.

Deep kissing is absolutely NOT a risk for HIV. Please look at this site's lessons on transmission, which, unlike other sites, are actually updated to include the most accurate and timely credible information. Obviously the site which mentioned kissing is at least fifteen years out of date.
