I Passed The Test
« on: June 18, 2007, 03:52:21 pm »
My biggest challenge after almost 8 months with out smoking came when we went camping this past weekend.  This is not just any old camping trip but to a Private, members only, GAY campground. Clothing optional. We used to have 8 to 10 people in our camp group. Most of us smoked.  I could go thru 2 packs a day easy. There was nothing to do but smoke and eat and drink and smoke some more and sit around the fire and smoke and sit around the pool and watch the naked guys and smoke and have sex and smoke.
I passed....not one cigarette this time. Even tho one of our now small group still smokes. And even tho we went to a party where cigars were the featured item.
This time our camping experience was very bittersweet.  Last time we went camping Jim was with us and now Jim is dead and all his leather and camp gear belongs to Steve who was along with us for his FIRST camp experience.

Congrats on not smoking.  It gets a LOT easier.  I've not smoked cigarettes in over 16 years now ;D!  I know you had fun at the campground; did you work on your no-lines tan?  We'll be at a similar campground farther south for the July 4th holiday.  I can't wait!

Good for you, Bear. WELL DONE!

Work on finding something enjoyable to replace the pleasure of smoking. I have faith in you. You'll come up with something, buddy.

Bear,
Good job!  I quit in 1988.  Don't miss the damn things.  Looks like you and David will need to prove "no tan lines" to the rest of us inquiring boys and some curious girls in SF....yum!   :o

Oh boy!  I'm planning on giving up after SF as well, but not until November 15.  That's the day my hospital campus is going smoke-free, vistors, patients, staff, everyone!  I'm chairperson of an employee advisory group who will likely be involved in the campaign, so it'd be a good PR thing if I did...and they're going to give us free Nicoderm.  Smokes recently went up over a dollar here in Texas, and I'm not getting any younger...

...but ironically my boyfriend says it doesn't bother him at all, "at all," he says...yet I still smoke outside when we're spending time together.  I just hope I don't regain all the weight I've lost when it happens, and driving a thousand miles during the holidays will be the real test!
