Red State - Blue State
« on: January 20, 2007, 02:13:52 pm »
Did anyone see the article in the November 2006 "Vanity Fair" (ok, yes, I know I'm a little behind on my mags) that compared the Red vs Blue states?  They used several different areas:  Divorce rates, unwed mothers, deaths with firearms, and on down the line.

It was a rather interesting and entertaining read.
4/6/07   CD4 450, % 23, No VL
2/19/07 CD4 487, % 26, VL 47,500
1/4/07   CD4 357, % 27, No VL
10/3/06 CD4 500, % 26, VL 18,000
7/6/06   CD4 530, % 29, VL 83,800
4/6/06   CD4 555, % 28, VL 13,000

Yeah, I read that.  Interesting read, though not surprising really if you've been in a trailer park.

Good read.  God bless living in a blue city in an increasingly ambiguously purple state.

Yeah, but do all the po' white folks in Oregon Hill still scream "Fry the N-word" when a black man's on death row?  That's the Richmond I knew 20 years ago.

No.  It's all college students and poor faggots like myself now.

Some of the old school Oregon Hill people are still there, but the rising property values have forced a lot of them to leave.

Only people in GWAR lived there in my day!  Then again, I was a pioneer in Jackson Ward, though later I moved to Shokoe Slip (not Bottom!) where I lived a block away from the legendary Scandals nightclub which I think is closed now, no?  Ah... for those nights dancing to Mel & Kim, sniffing poppers (they sold them at the entrance, by ladies with beehive hairdo's) and watching stellar drag shows upstairs by Della Cocaine.  I even DJ'ed a fashion show there once...  or was that at the Pyramid?

Matt from GWAR still has the Slave Pit somewhere close to me, I think.

I live like three blocks from some dude in Avail...

It's all about the Fist City stuff now.

All those places you mentioned are long gone... except for maybe Fieldens and Godfreys... I've heard that they've been open since dirt was invented...

I don't really do the Richmond gay scene... it's kind of blah.

Don't insult the legacy that is Fielden's!

Oh... how about Broad Way Cafe down the street?  It was this dump run by senior citizen transvestites and they played continual non-stop Stock, Aitken & Waterman songs and pumped it all out of those 70's speakers with the colored lights that beat to the tempo.  It was hilarious, though quite tragic.  Cheap beer... and they taped place mats on the walls in the booths with scenic night time pictures of NYC.  That can't possibly be still going.

I don't know Godfreys.  I remember some gay bar in Carytown though... older guys went there at the time and once we went on acid and started to dance on tables and they kicked us all out.  We kind of terrorized the town, but I digress.
