ssi review how will i get meds anymore?
« on: December 17, 2014, 02:26:26 pm »
so they sent me something asking about my abilitys and daily activitys and I filled it out and sent it in months ago, now I get a even bigger pack of forms about the same stuff and saying I have to call a number and talk to someone maybe goto classes my case got sent to them.

so im stressed I been on ssi for 10 years only known about aids for 1.5 years so its not just 700 bucks a month to worry about its 3000 bucks of meds I need a month.

say they kick me off I will worry about food and shelter next but more important how will I get my meds if I am kicked off still cant work have no money and no insurance?

is there a way to get my meds on time every month for free? or very very cheap like 90% off.

this sucks! btw I got anxiety, stress, being around people makes me very nervous, bad memory and cant read and comprehend well is why I got on it in the first place. so nothing I can just say look my legs don't work or im blind its stuff they cant see and could say arnt a problem

Are you talking about SSDI -- as in specific disability approval -- but it wasn't for HIV it was for something else? Can we ask what the original determination was for, and if in the past 10 years you have had a review done and what happened after it? (never mind, I see it must be mental health related -- if so are you still in regular care for this, as in seeing a mental health professional regularly instead of just having a general practitioner make refills for you?)

Are we to assume you are disabled and not working? If you have no income you will qualify for ADAP for your medications, but if you want to remain on SSDI you really need to go sit down with a case manager at an AIDS service organization, and perhaps be referred to a legal entity that works on such cases pro bono for HIV patients.

It's hard to say much with the little information you are giving us.

Are these reviews handled by each state, or at the federal level?  I always hear many say it is easier to get and keep SSDI, in certain states.  And, is there consideration for how long someone has been on SSDI and out of the job market?  Or, do they only take their view of your ability to work in account, without regard to someone likely having a very hard time finding employment, after 10+ years on disability?

Thanks for the info.  I've learned so much about SSDI over the last few years.  I figure it is just good info to know.  That 95% figure would be reassuring-- 95% keep their benefits after review, according to this site.

1) when they send you a review they definitely want to know you are still being treated for whatever your disability was

2) Yes, I'd still go talk to someone at an ASO -- I can't answer detailed questions like you are asking. I'm not looking at the forms. However, when they do the review it's standard I think to stick in those other forms about employment/retraining.

3) You should also talk to your HIV doctor about adding your current diagnosis and medical situation to your SSDI review. Can't hurt.

You really need to go sit down with a case manager. And waiting any longer to do this at this time of year with the holidays isn't wise, because they are all extra busy with end of year/beginning of year changes in various programs, so their client load is heavier.

I'd recommend taking all day tomorrow to get an appointment set up.

today I get something saying I have to go to a mental examination. I think my head is going to pop from all this stress

I can't tell you how yours will go. I can tell you how mine went years ago.

I received notification telling me the name of the person who would perform the evaluation and their contact info. I made an appointment with them. The meeting happened at their office.

They asked a standard set of questions that they read off a form. I answered them. Most were "yes" or "no" sort of questions.

Then they had me do simple tasks like put together little puzzle pieces.

They asked me to describe a typical day. I described a typical day where I struggled to function.

Then there was another set of questions where I had to answer with more complex answers than just "yes" or "no'. One of the questions asked what was the name of the person who was administering the evaluation. I answered her, but I also told her the only way I remembered her name was because it was written in very large letters on the diploma hanging behind her desk.

All in all, it took about two hours. I did not have to fill out any forms. I just had to have my ID.

I received a follow-up letter from SSA telling me they had received the report from the person who performed the evaluation and when I would expect a decision. Soon afterward I received a letter telling me I was still considered disabled.

Even if you receive notice that SSA no longer considers you disabled, you are able to appeal that decision. So, even if the person who performs you evaluation concludes you are no longer disabled, you will still have the ability to contest that finding.
Reality is frequently inaccurate.
