I just found out a month and half ago
« on: December 08, 2006, 12:13:03 am »
I am 99.9% sure that I was infected 9 months ago. When my first doctor gave me my numbers I didn't know anything about test results. When I went to my second doctor I gave her my numbers and she told me that she thought I was infected about 7-9 years ago. I was tested many times in the last few years and there wasn't a problem. My CD4 was 253, my VL was 17,000 and my percentage was 8%. I've been on meds since 10/19 and my CD4 lowered to 187 (she said that was normal), my VL is undetecable and my percentage is 11%. My doctor said this is better then she expected but I'm am still scared.

Hey Virgo71,

It is unfortunate that you have tested positive for HIV. It is not over. In fact, you have taken the necessary steps to get back on track with your health. It does take time with the climb for your CD4's and your percentage.

From this occurrence it is an external anxiety which has triggered your internal anxiety because it is only natural to care about you and our health. In the beginning, there will be a lot of diffrent emotions at hand as you pass through this phase. This too shall pass.

The main thing is to take care of YOU and do not let it get the best of YOU. We are all in this together and you are not alone as we all walk on our journey's in this life. Feel free to come and vent with whatever is on your mind from time to time.

Welcome to your Virtual Support System.

Happy Holidays!

Hello Virgo,

We3lcome Virgo !!I understand your concerned and possibly worried, But the fact is you have made improvement in your numbers.

Since 10/19, your percentage has gone up from 8 to 11. Thats great !!! And, you have an undetectable viral load. Thats great also. The meds are doing their job !!!

Try not to worry or have stress. It does not do a body good. I am sure you will have some even better test results next time around.

By the way, What meds are on? Make sure to take them when your supposed to. And don't miss or skip doses.

Stay in touch with us, and if you have questions, don't hesitate to ask away !!!

Take care of yourself-------Ray

Hi Virgo, welcome to AM. You're getting medical care now, and this is a great place to come to to talk and see how others are dealing with HIV.

We were all scared, and it's a normal reaction.

Welcome to the forums Virgo.  Now that your on meds your numbers will improve.   Being scared is understable at this point and you will find those fears will lessen in time.   It does get better....

Welcome to the forums Virgo.  A positive diagnosis is scary and especially when you start with the numbers where they are for you.  The great news is that the meds do work!  You are already seeing that.  And even though your doctor speculates your infection was several years ago there is so much variabililty in the way our bodies handle this virus that I'd say you probably have a better idea of when you were infected.  You are doing the right thing and you are seeing progress!  Congratulations and best wishes for the New Year!
