Title: Can I get HIV from only saliva being on my penis
Post by: FoxMulder on June 28, 2006, 11:24:41 pm
I'm a male and 12 days ago i received a blow job from another male friend. A few days before I had jerked off rather hard, which left the edge of the head of my penis red. No sore or blood, but more like an abrasion and no pain at all. My friend gave me head for less than a minute, but now I'm worried because I don't know his HIV status and I'm concerned about gettting HIV from his saliva on my penis, especially with my penis being slightly red from the rough jerking a few days before. There was no semen or precum involved, and i didn't even get off. Could HIV be transmitted this way, solely through his saliva. Does HIV live in Saliva? I keep reading conflicting reports on this. Any help would be appreciated.

Fox,

Saliva is not infectious and in fact it contains many different things that actually inhibit hiv. Not one person in the history of this pandemic has become infected with hiv through a blowjob and you will not be the first.

Please read the Welcome Thread (http://forums.poz.com/index.php?topic=220.0) and follow the Lessons links.

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL STIs together. To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with a sexually transmitted infection.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results. Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple.

You do not get HIV from receiving a blow job.

And if you did get HIV from saliva in your penis, you should  call your co-worker Scully, cause that would definitely be an X-Files case.
