Title: Unprotected oral & rimming risk?
Post by: Dtown313 on November 19, 2017, 09:15:25 am
Hello, I'll keep it short. I recently engaged in making out, metal masturbation,  unprotected oral and rimming with another male. I'm a male also. This person told me they were negative but I know that doesn't matter. There was no ejaculation from either of us. What is my risk of contracting HIV from this encounter? Is pep warranted? I do plan on testing at the appropriate time but would like some information. Thank you for any feedback.

Hi,

Nothing you mentioned stood out as risk for HIV, the virus is sexually transmitted through unprotected anal and vaginal intercourse. PEP nor testing is necessary over this encounter. In fact I doubt you be able to find anyone to give you PEP.

Do keep in mind other STIs are much easier to transmit and you should be testing for all on a regular basis since you are sexually active.

Best,

Wade

Thank you so much for the response. Just 2 quick follow up questions:

Does the health of my mouth during oral sex put me at risk? No sores, but possibly some minor scrapes/cuts.

Does the presence of possible precum during oral and mutual masturbation put me at risk?

Thank you for any feedback.

Receiving a BJ is not a risk and rimming either way is not a HIV risk.

Giving a BJ well not unless it was open gaping wounds, as the mouth lacks the cells to infect and small scrapes will not change that, the virus is very fragile, and your mouth has dozens of protein and enzymes that damage the virus and render it unable to infect. So there is no need to run test every time you give a blow job, just get tested the next time you are due for a regular checkup. Its simply put a near negligible risk, as in so tiny its not worth running out and testing over.

No or we already presume the presence when providing the assessment, so it does not change the answers given.

I agree with Wade, nothing you mentioned stood out as a real world concern, advice is to move on with your life and test as normal for STI's and HIV as routine at least yearly

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:
Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, every time, no exceptions.

Keep in mind that some sexual practices which may be described as ‘safe’ in terms of HIV transmission might still pose a risk for transmission of other STI's, so please do get fully tested regularly and at least yearly for all STI's including but not limited to HIV and test more frequently if unprotected intercourse occurs

Also note that it is possible to have an STI and show no signs or symptoms and the only way of knowing is by testing.

More information on HIV Basics, PEP, TaSP and Transmission can be found through the links in my signature to our POZ pages, this includes information on HIV Testing (https://poz.com/basics/hiv-basics/hiv-testing)

Kind regards

Jim
