Dear Experts,

I live in the east part of Europe and nobody in my country cares HIV. Even there is no one govermental web site about HIV. No data, no statistics, no information. It is a big shame, I know.

I am married and 9 weeks ago I received unprotected oral sex from a gay sex worker. (I am male) No anal sex nor giving oral sex to him.

I know that receiving oral is not a risk for HIV transfer (I read your posts). However, it is said that if the giver has bleeding gums or sores in his/her mouth, HIV virus may contact to tip of penis (There was no sores on my penis. I am also circumsized man. )

Oh God! Who investigates the mouth of sexual partner before oral sex? Who says " Open your mouth! I will check your gums and sores" In my opinion, that's why people are asking the same question over and over and living with anxiety.

1) How much blood is needed in mouth of giver (sucker) for transfering the virus to receiver through opening of penis? Or is a long touch between sore and penis risk for HIV transfer?

2) Why don't professors and academics try to change CDC statement. Is it ethical to declare wrong information which is "insertive oral sex carries 1/20000 % risk". I may seem absurd but if we are talking about hiv, risk is risk.

Getting a blowjob is absolutely NOT a risk for hiv infection. Not only is saliva not infectious, but it also contains over a dozen different proteins and enzymes that damage hiv and render it unable to infect.

Not one person has ever been infected through getting blown and you won't be the first.

1. You would have to punch the person repeatedly in the mouth before they gave you a blowjob in order for there to be even a remote risk.

2. Who knows. Those whatever/whatever stats were long ago discredited as twaddle. The numbers were pulled out of thin air. If you want to know why the CDC continues to quote them, you'll have to ask the CDC.

Getting a blowjob is NOT a risk for hiv infection. End of story.

The CDC continues to recommend 13 weeks as the testing point for a conclusive result. At that date all of the generations of tests currently in use will yield a reliable result.

We're sticking with that date for the timebeing and do not anticipate a change in the near future.

Dear Ann-Andy,

I am sure that you know the classical hiv duo debate. I really try to understand new FDA approved technology.

I  really wonder that how do doctors claim conclusive results at 28th day while test manufacturers state: "4th generation tests shorten window period 1 to 2 weeks". What is your opinion?

So, in my opinion, it should be conclusive at 10-11 weeks, not at 28th day.

( I know, you want me ask to them but I am a student and do not have 15 bucks. )

The vast majority of people who have actually been infected will seroconvert and test positive by six weeks, with the average time to seroconversion being only 22 days. However, a negative at six weeks must be confirmed at thee months to catch the rare person who takes a little longer than six weeks to create enough antibodies to be detected.

I rather doubt that the official window period is going to change any time soon. Better safe than sorry.

I don't understand your intense interest in the window period when you aren't in one. You have NOT had a risk!

i am a lecturer in a university. sorry, i think this is a "vocational disease". i am following "why" questions because i know that the best way to help people is giving rational explanations. YES/NO answers do not help always.

For example, you told me that there should be so much blood to be infected through oral sex. this was very logical explanation. thank you. however, some people such as rapid rod gets angry and dismiss people. "Move on" "useless question" "do not waste my time" "do not post anymore" etc. this is not helping us. believe me.

Isn't it a good idea to state to WWs:

"Those who suggest window periods longer than 6 weeks are trying to account for all those who may also have compromised immune systems. The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) recommends waiting 3 months for a conclusive test result."

You seem to want to engage in conversations about various general aspects of information and testing.

Rather than continuing on with conversations as you seem to want to do, we prefer to focus here on  giving specific responses to specific incidents. In your case getting a blowjob did not put you at risk for HIV transmission. Period.

Keep it simple. All you have to remember and practice for the future is to consistently use condoms for vaginal and anal intercourse. Then you will be effectively protected against the sexual transmission of HIV.
