Possible Infection?
« on: April 24, 2012, 01:54:37 pm »

    Hi everyone,

So here goes another post about risk. I feel the need to get my story out there to determine what my risk is and whether or not I have HIV, because to be honest - I'm scared that I might. So here it goes.

This past Thursday a buddy of my came up from michigan to visit me; I had met him once at a party before, and we hit it off. Only he had a boyfriend and nothing became of it. At one point, they broke up and he decided to come visit me in Ohio. We fooled around, engaging in oral sex (it was primarily him giving to me; I gave to him a few times, but I don't like the idea of precum in my mouth and some had already got in, so I stopped and spit out whatever went in). I also noticed he had a few whitish bumps right by the head of his penis and I asked about them; I thought they were herpes, but he said they were skin growths (so said the doctor). I looked up pictures and the closest thing I found to what they looked like was Penis Pimples; nevertheless they were in my mouth for a period of time and I'm worried they might have been sores.

The next day, we engaged in more oral sex and eventually I had protected sex with him. I so-called "topped" him, and I made sure I used a condom. We did so twice. Anyway, after he left, I noticed I had a red mark on my penis and was worried I caught something from him. I also noticed my appetite was significantly lesser than it had been before; I used to eat five meals a day, and now I'm down to two small meals. Two days ago, I noticed I had white spots in the back of my mouth, and a few bumps on the top of my soft palate. I went to the doctor and she said they were inflamed and that the white spots were my lymph nodes working in my throat. She prescibed me antibiotics and they've yet to take affect on whatever's in my throat. It's only been a day since I've used them. Earlier today I noticed my right tonsil was a little swollen, and my stools have been coming out as diarrhea. I'm worried this is the onset of the acute HIV symptoms. I haven't yet developed a fever or a noticable rash, but I'm afraid I might.

My question is, is it possible that I contract HIV from what I did? And could what I be experiencing now be related to HIV?

Thank you!

Rs, you need to know for now and for future reference that the only confirmed risks for the sexual transmission of HIV are unprotected vaginal and anal intercourse. That's it. As long as condoms are always used for those activities you will be well protected from HIV sexually.

Whatever those symptoms are have nothing to do with HIV. If they persist you should stay in touch with your doctor. This is not an HIV situation. Period.

 Hi everyone,

So I posted on here before worrying about my risk of contracting HIV. I've been assured that my risk of contracting HIV is incredibly low by some moderators on this forum, since the only possible exposure I had was through precum in my mouth (which I spat out). I don't believe I had any cuts or lesions, but there's always the possibility I may have.

In any case, here is a summary of what I've had symptomatically since my sexual encounter:

1 day after possible exposure: loss of appetite (has been consistent until now)

3 days after possible exposure: irritated throat, nodular lymph tissue in back of throat is "clearly working", as the doctor put it. No swollen lymph nodes. No pain talking, swallowing, e.t.c. (still remains to this day). Doctor says it's not a bacterium causing my throat problems, it has to be a virus.

4 days after possible exposure: very slight fever (not at all like the flu); general warm feeling. Went away after sleeping. Reoccured two or three times, but went away. No problem.

11 days after possible exposure: blotcy red skin in arms and occasionally the chest. Characterized by flakiness. Gets worse at some points, by then fades away at others. I put lotion on it and it was virtually gone. Got an HIV test and it was -.

12 days after possible exposure: slight fatigue (could be due to finals week; I'm in college)

These are all the symptoms I've had thus far. I don't quite understand how the HIV rash is supposed to look; I read several different descriptions on it on the internet, and cannot accurately determine how mine compares. There are no bumps, warts, or blisters, and it only itches occasionally. Plus it goes away at times. If someone could shed light on this issue, this would be nice.

Also, I'd like to mention that I did talk to the guy who I had sex with, and he told me that he tested negative for HIV after 3 weeks of being with his ex-boyfriend. Later they both got the flu, though I don't know whether they actually got the flu or whether they got the HIV flu. Nevertheless, he'll be tested this week and find out next week whether he's possible. But for the meantime, I'd like to know how these symptoms match up to others who do have ARS or HIV.

Thank you for your time!

You are worrying unnecessarily. Giving oral is only theoretically a risk for HIV. Your saliva has over a dozen elements and proteins which very effectively prevent the transmission of HIV.

Nothing you are reporting symptomatically is in any way HIV specific. That's no surprise because you haven't had a risk.

If they persist you should discuss them with your doctor. This is absolutely not an HIV situation.
