Hi,

I am not sure how accurate this news report is as I can't figure out how there are 92 African nations, but it is great there is help concerning HIV medication (http://www.joemygod.com/2017/09/24/92-african-nations-get-generic-hiv-drugs-75-per-year-per-patient-gates-foundation-guarantee/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter). 

But I think this just shows how crazy the healthcare industry is in the US.  I can't even buy one pill for under $85 let alone get a years supply for $75.  Yes there is a grant paying an additional cost so it would be interesting to see what the total cost is.  Nor did I think we had generic medications yet.  Is that true?  Or are there generics overseas but not in the US?

This just shows how the US healthcare industry needs to be corrected. 

On a side not if I could go to the doctor/hospital and actually know the cost it would be awesome as well.  It's funny when you ask what the cost is and they say "I have no idea", but you need to sign this form saying you will pay the bill. 

Just an interesting reading this morning.  And if this isn't an appropriate post I am sorry and I can take it down.

Yes, there are generic meds, not available in the US but are elsewhere

Nevirapine, abacavir, and lamivudine are approved generics in the US - with others soon to follow.  But, just because something is "approved" doesn't necessarily mean there is a generic drug manufacturer making it yet.

I get my generic Nevirapine from my pharmacy here in the US.  It's been available as a generic in the US for years now.

Yep, that is the problem.  There might be a generic available but no one makes it. 

Then again I've taken some generics (for other issues) and they had some odd side effects I had to go back on the more expensive Rx's. 

Just hope more Rx's become available that has a generic alternative.
