Tengo muchas dudas, mi familia en riesgo.

Hace 2 años tuve una situación de riesgo, contacto con fluidos vaginales de una sexoservidora y mi pene, sin condón. En ese tiempo las dudas me mataron y logre a los dos dias siguientes contactar a la sexoservidora y llevarla a hacerse una prueba de VIH, la cual salió negativa. A los 3 meses me hice una prueba de Elisa, negativa, y a los 4 meses otra prueba de Elisa, también negativa. Investigué en diversas fuentes y en la ayuda telefónica de mi país, Telsida, en México, dando por definitivo el resultado. Sin embargo, después de la prueba de 4 meses que salió negativa, tuve relaciones con mi esposa, la cual se encontraba amamantando a nuestro primer hijo. Ahora que tiene 2 años, se enferma mucho del estómago, aunque está alto para su edad y pasado de peso. De otras enfermedades no padece mas que gripitas y en algunas ocasiones infección en la garganta. Pero con esta diarrea tiene casi un mes y no se le quita y me están matando las dudas de si tengo o no VIH y durante la lactancia se la haya pasado a mi esposa y por ende a mi hijo. No tiene otros sintomas mas que sus heces aguadas 3 veces al día. Debí hacerme la prueba a los 6 meses? Ayuda, soy muy nervioso y necesito apoyo. gracias.

Su resultado negativo es conclusivo y fiable. Estas preocupando innecesario.

Sus sintomas son algo para Vd. a discurtir con su doctor. El VIH no es la causa.

Thanks a lot, Andy. But please, I know i'm behaving like many others and i'm sure you are frustrated by how many times we ask you the same thing over and over, but I have to ask: why is misleading information about the proper time to be tested? why 6 months? Well, again, my 2 elisa tests were negative at 3 and 4 months since the event. I love my family, and I don't know what else to do.

By the way, I have another doubt. By the time I had the risk relationship, I lived years with just one kidney, because i donated one. So, does this affect the result of the elisa tests?  I'm 29 years old.

I've moved your thread here because now you're writing in English. Make up your mind and keep your entries in one place, please.

Your having had a kidney transplant years ago would not affect the validity of your Elisa tests. It would only be an issue if the transplant was very recent.

We're not responsible for what you pick up from other sites about when to test. The CDC is conservative about testing and have for a long time considered 3 months to be a reliable testing point.

You've reliably tested negative. Stop with the unnecessary drama and just get on with your life. You are HIV negative. Period. End of story.

Guilt is your issue, not HIV. You did what you did. Let it go and get on with life. Really.

Hi, sorry I post a new topic although is the continuation of my first post, but I could'nt find the reply button. My doubt is, I don't know what generation were my tests, I suppose were 3rd generation. Can I be confident with my tests at 3 and 4 months?

As to your latest question, at 3 months all generations of tests currently in use will give a reliable and conclusive negative result. You're HIV negative. Period.

You could not find the reply button because in the Am I Forum, you need to pay a subscription after you've used up your three free posts. I don't understand how people can miss the eight paragraph IMPORTANT UPDATE that appears at the top of each and every Am I Infected forum page. (A lot of people don't seem to read it. It's not just you.)

The window period for hiv testing has been three months for YEARS now but unfortunately, many websites and even doctors still think it's six months. It's not. It's THREE.

The only people who might take a little longer than three months to seroconvert and test positive are those on chemotherapy for cancer, anti-rejection drugs following organ transplant, or have been injecting street drugs, every day, for years.

You donated a kidney (admirable), but that will not affect your window period. If you were the recipient of a kidney and had to take anti-rejection drugs for the rest of your life, then you might want to test out to six months to make sure. However, even the three groups of people listed above will normally seroconvert and test positive by three months, just like everyone else.

You do not have hiv.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!!!
