Hello everyone,

A few years ago at my bachelor party I had protected sexual intercourse with a stripper. She insisted that I didnt use a condom I on the other hand told her I had a condom and I was going to use it. The sex only lasted a few seconds because I freaked out! I thought why would she want to have unprotected sex with someone she dosent know. My question is since I used a condom do I need to get a test? Also a few months ago I had sex with a condom with an escort?

Chir,

Condoms prevent hiv infection. You did the right thing and used one, so you were not at risk in either situation.

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together. To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex with a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through all three condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

Although you do NOT need to test over these protected incidents, anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results. Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

Thank you Ann. I was taught that latex condoms offer some protection but not complete protection, even if used properly. I thank you for the lessons and for your responses.

I've been in a relationship for eight years with an hiv negative man. He stays hiv negative because we use condoms every time. Condoms really do prevent hiv infection, when used every time and used correctly. Make sure you read the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can be sure you're using them correctly.

Would you agree that a condom was used correctly if it dosen't slip or break and if it covered the whole penis? Sounds like a dumb question but just curious?

You didn't mention the use of a water base lube. The lube helps to prevent breakage. Other than that you used them correctly.

Yes, I agree.

I also agree with Rodney that it is best to also use a water-based lube as this will help prevent breakage. Don't fret if you haven't used lube before - if the condom broke because of it you would have known about it, no doubt about that at all.

Make sure you read those condom and lube links - think of it as a refresher course.

You have not had a risk for hiv infection. Keep using those condoms and you won't in future either.

Fingering, no matter how rough or deep, is not a risk for HIV transmission. Zero risk. Period.

Hello everyone,

I have a question about the rapid oraquick test. Do these test have controls? I tested negative after 4 months of a possible exposure. Could I call this a definitive negative? I am pretty sure I did the test, I think if it would have been done incorrectly it would have come back as neither positive or negative.

Hey guys, if I have protected vaginal intercourse with a female, and tested negative via an oraquick test almost a year and half which came out negative, can I put this hiv fear behind me? I am kind of unsure if I did the test properly because I rubbed the pallet on my cheek and tougne of the test which I took over a year ago.

It didn't matter where you rubbed it. You didn't have a risk. An oraquick test is a blood test, an oraquick advance test can be done orally.

Protected intercourse is not a risk for hiv infection. You've been told this repeatedly. You've also been told that you have tested conclusively hiv negative. The window period is only three months, not four months and not a year and a half. You don't have hiv.

And I am going to remind you about the warning Ann gave you. You're just scrambling around looking for problems where there isn't any. Sexually the issue is quite clear as far as HIV transmission: it's about unprotected vaginal or anal intercourse. All of the other fears are in the theoretical domain and not how transmission really happens.

Now, move along and get on with your life. Really.

I just got home and saw I have a certified letter waiting for me from the state of fl health dept. I am freaking out, however I tested negative over two years ago. Could they be contacting me now to tell me that they made a mistake?

Hey buddy,

It's hard to know what it might be about. It is possible that someone you were with sexually has tested positive for some STD and was requested to give names of former sexual partners.

But I'm just guessing about that.

And as long as you have tested negative then your status remains just that -- HIV negative.

Of course it's understandable that you get anxious over this mystery. Pick up the letter and find out what's up. Keep us posted.
