Do I Have HIV? / Re: I have had the worst last 12 days of my life.

As Micheal already explained what you posted here about the encounter with the sex worker wasn't an HIV risk.

You did not acquire HIV from that encounter.

Do you think that there is a real possibility then that I have received a false reactive?

Sure, it could be a false reactive, which happens for several reasons, including cross-antibody/antigen reactions to other current or past infections. Anyhow, it's just a reactive screening test, not a diagnosis and it just means follow-up testing is needed to rule out HIV.

Thank you for your response.

I’m absolutely gob smacked at this as I’ve always thought HIV was extremely hard to pass on especially for a male and I used a condom which did not break/slip come off at any time during insertive sex.

welcome! It's always good to hear from another person who has been living with HIV for a while.

Sorry I don't have an answer for you; but I was wondering if what you are talking about is a declining cd4 issue? How long has this been coming on? Is your age part of the problem?

Hopefully, somebody might be able to give you some help. ;)

I used a condom during insertive sex and received oral without a condom.
HIV is transmitted by unprotected (condomless) anal/vaginal sex or sharing injection needles.

Since you stated that you had PROTECTED sex, you had NO risk for HIV.

(I don’t even know if the lady had it).
to be honest, this doesn't matter. People who are living with HIV who have remained on medication daily and have an undetectable viral load can NOT transmit HIV. Your best bet though, since knowing the status of a casual encounter is impossible, is just to always use condoms -- just like you did! :)

Have a great day,
Michael

Reducing Your HIV risks:
With no exceptions, use condoms correctly and consistently for anal or vaginal intercourse
Talk to a healthcare provider about PrEP as another layer of protection

Get tested yearly for HIV and other STIs.
If you don’t use condoms and/or PrEP, test more frequently

Some sexual practices described as safe in terms of acquiring HIV still pose a risk for other more easily acquired STIs. It is possible to show no signs or symptoms from an STI so testing is the only way to know.

Get tested at least yearly for STIs, including but not limited to HIV, and more frequently if condomless intercourse occurs.

What’s the ONLY way to know if you’ve been infected by HIV or an STI?
Get tested.

Pre-HAART Long-Term Survivors / Interleukin 2

I am looking for clinic or university that will provide interleukin 2 treatment to bolster CD4 count, the CD4 boost lasts 3 years, I received my first cocktail in 1996 and it's looking like I am heading for prophylactic therapy again and would prefer to avoid

I’d also like to state that a week before exposure I was a little ill and had a mini fever for a few days. To this day, I’m still coughing green mucus. I wonder if this could have affected my results?

Hi all,

I’ve been doing extensive googling over the last week and came across your forum.

I paid for sex with a sex worker on the 19th April. I used a condom during insertive sex and received oral without a condom. I’m based in the U.K. The condom never came off during sex.

I went on holiday and thought nothing of it but on my return I was extremely anxious all of a sudden and done an online test from finger which is sent to a lab. The sample was provided on 9th April. That result came back as reactive on the 13th this month as was the worst day in my life. Immediately I done a rapid finger prick it was negative. Then I went straight to a clinic where they took blood from my vein. This is exactly 24 days after exposure.  Done another finger prick one again the next day: negative.

I also done a finger prick yesterday  which is now 32 days after exposure: negative.

I got my clinic results back today and they said the results are equivocal or indeterminate. The nurse advised me I had a low risk exposure (I don’t even know if the lady had it). They’ve sent sample to a different lab to dig deeper in the results and they also want a second draw of blood from my vein. She also said it’s quite normal that this was similar result to my online finger prick test and not to worry about it being equivocal.

Based on my exposure and rapid tests I’ve been doing, what do you think my chances of being negative are? The nurse couldn’t breakdown what exactly the results were but just that it was “borderline” and therefore indeterminate.

I’d appreciate your kind words.

Vivir con el VIH / Re: LA ESPERANZA MUERE AL ULTIMO

ojo.

Abrazos

I Just Tested Poz / Re: Well... Here I am.

ojo.             Hello there!… Welcome to the forum. Well, like Jim just said, if you’re having sex, unprotect sex, you run the risk of getting no just HIV but other STIs. You are no alone, We are here for you to support you at least until you learn how to live with HIV.

Ask Jim said, you are not dying, so there is no need to tell your family about having HIV but, if you want to tell them, I would recommend you to digest the news first and then share your condition with others. i’ve been living with this condition for 29 years and just my family knows about it and this is because I was dying of pneumonia. Otherwise I would have never told them, I respect the choices others make… you are going to be fine just take your medication, just one pill at day, and you can go back to live a normal life to not think about telling anyone about your status or thinking about finding love until you learn how to live with your new normal. Again, we are here for you. Please keep us posted… Hugs.
