Out Out Damn Spot!
« on: March 15, 2007, 11:41:21 am »
I'm a newbie, and I have these spots on my palms.

small red dots that are harder than the skin on my hands.

is it Calgon? Have I tured into Lady Macbeth? or do I have a problem on my hands (no pun intended) than needs medical attention?

Just by your description, it sounds more like a contact dermatitis from something that has contacted your hands. Have you recently changed soap, dish detergent, laundry soap, hand lotion...?
It might not hurt to have it looked at.

Hi Toronto,

I don't mean to be rude, but are you hiv positive? I'm asking because this forum is for people who are living with hiv.

A rash on the palms of the hands can also be a symptom of secondary syphilis. You need to have it checked out by a doctor ASAP. It might be nothing, but it's not worth making assumptions or guessing about. See a doctor.

Thanks for the replies.

Ann - as you can see above, I identify myself as a "newbie".
Your question was not rude, just a tad insensitive.

Toronto,

I'm sorry, I really didn't mean to be insensitive. We sometimes get people wander in here who are not hiv positive and don't have anyone in their lives who are either. You gave no indication in your first post, so I kinda had to ask. My only intention was to protect the forum - not to upset you.

But welcome to the forums. There's a wealth of information available on this website, so I'm glad you found us. To find out what else this place has to offer, check out the Welcome thread or browse through the links in the upper left hand corner of any forum page.

And please, get that rash seen to. Hopefully it's nothing, but secondary syphilis is always a possibility when a rash appears on the palms of the hands and/or soles of the feet.

Hi Toronto guy, sorry you've had to join us here, but welcome. Do get that checked out. Uncertainty causes stress levels to rise, which isn't good either!

Thanks, seeing MD first thing in the am

and this site is amazing

you all are so well informed and generous in experience, knowledge and spirit

this is all new, abit overwhelming and large

I'm trying to stay focused, and not get swept away in the emotion and "tragedy"

instead, I want to learn what i can do to stay healthy, be of service and continue celebrating life

you all have a great dialogue running, hope i can contribute, but for now, and after tomorrow's appointment, I may just have a bundle of questions

Hi Torontoguy,

Welcome!  Keep us posted on the rash.  I had a similar thing and we never figured out what it was (I tested neg for syph.)  I think it was an allergic reaction to a tanning lotion, however you should best get it checked.

Bests,
Drew

Hey Toronto, Ottawa here. :D

Sorry to hear about the rash, and quite frankly I've never heard of anyone having a rash on the palms of their hands. That would freak me out too. Let us know what the doc says (hopefully nothing serious).

Hey Torontoguy,

It is always bittersweet welcoming someone here. I am very glad you found us and have joined in, but at the same time I am sorry you have come up positive.

That said, I hope you make yourself at home here. It is a great place to learn and to find a shoulder on which to lean.

Oh, and what Ann said about the spots on the palms. When you see your doc tormorrow, show them to him.

HUGS,

Mark
