Figures...something to make us worry more....although id like to know who sponsored this study.....seems to me that pharm companies would gain a lot of $$$$ if all patients started meds earlier....

If you have a good ID doctor and you are consistent with taking your meds and you have your labs done as required. Most all things will be headed off. I didn't find this study or the Strong Study to be all that concerning. It just shows you, you can't let your guard down, or become complacent and starting meds sooner than later may have its advantages.

To me the study just says this needs to be looked into.  If individuals not on meds but with relatively high CD counts are being affected by certain diseases at a much higher rate than the rest of the population, then maybe HIV is also working someplace else.  Maybe not...  but it deserves some study.  One of the doctors at the recent international symposium said that HIV is the only chronic disease for which we have treatment but we delay treatment.  I've become convinced that for as much as we know about this virus there is still so much we don't know.

There is a reason for that. HAART comes with a very large risk of drug related toxicities, and that risk increases the longer you take them.
