Here is the patent submitted by Stanford on the production of Prostratin:

http://www.faqs.org/patents/app/20090187046

The patent goes into detail as to the mechanism prostatin uses to go after virus and how to synthetically produce it, making it possible to use as a therapeutic.

Interesting read.

I don't see the news. Almost a decade ago prostratin was considered a powerful addition to HAART able to activate latent HIV. The fact is that they never moved to test it on humans. 10 years spent in the test tube. I was reading about the difficulties in finding prostratin at enough quantities for tests and further development. It seems they are now able to make it in the lab.

interesting, and i hope it doesnt sink and vanish in the sea of "under scientific investigation" forever.
God grant me the serenity to accept the things i can not change.

xman,

Did you read the links ? The news is the fact that they can make prostratin in sufficient quantities for therapeutic use with the new method mentioned in the patent. A wonderful achievement. Now, they can start clinical trials.

It's still preclinical. Read this from the article posted above:

The U.S. Food & Drug Administration conducted a preliminary review of AIDS Research Alliance’s prostratin data in February 2009. Additional pre-clinical studies will continue over the next year.

This means that human trials will most likely not start before 2011.
